As a System Administrator, you will be responsible for the management, maintenance, and optimization of servers and networks to ensure high availability and security. You will proactively monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement best practices for system upgrades and installations. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in system administration, a passion for problem-solving, and a commitment to continuous improvement. In this position, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support various IT initiatives and ensure alignment with organizational goals. We welcome military veterans and individuals from diverse backgrounds to apply and play a key role in our mission to deliver exceptional service to our clients.Responsibilities include:Performing installation, configuration, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting tasks in support of IT customersFrequently positioning yourself to set up and maintain computers and connect/pull cords from under desks and in server closetsPerforming regular and repetitive unpacking, moving, and installation of IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds (or greater with additional assistance)Frequently traversing around a large VA site campus while transporting equipment to various office buildingsCommunicating directly with customers on-site to diagnose and resolve customer related hardware/software issues utilizing the ServiceNow toolTrack and document all system changes, problems, issues, and work tasks within ServiceNowProvisioning of newly procured endpoints to include desktops, laptops, printers, and mobile devicesPerform imaging, desktop support, adds/moves and changesInstalling OS Patch installation/patch removal (if applicable), OS upgrades and Commercially Available Off-the-Shelf (COTS) softwareProviding user management account support where Elevated Privileges (EP) may be requiredPerforming software application installation and configuration based on change order instructionsUtilizing log data and system administration tools to diagnose system hardware and software problems, repair, and re-configure or replace defective system components as indicatedPerforming system monitoring and analysis on assigned systems to discover risks and inadequaciesProvide recommendations on the need for expansion, enhancement, or revision of systemsUtilizing Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) and SCOM tools to troubleshoot performance issues and deploy software packages, to include Scripting, McAfee, and other VA standard toolsPerforming inventory functions to include managing pagers and turn-ins including performing media sanitization, disposal and/or turn in of equipmentPerforming routine audits of systems and software to determine utilization and adequacy for demand, and compliance with current hardware and software site license regulations and requirementsPerforming general maintenance activities, printer deployment/repair, software installations, and equipment refreshesMay include occasionally pulling old cables from server room, as neededPerforming asset management to include asset inventory, audit and tracking, asset administration and reporting, integrated IT asset portfolio, history and forecasting, and automating the asset management process, as necessaryAbility to work both independently and as part of a team to achieve successful results with minimal guidance
