Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist

The OpportunityTetra Tech is looking for a full-time Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist to support a variety of projects in a dynamic consulting environment.This position functions primarily as a GIS Specialist for the Duluth, GA or Chantilly, VA office, and will work with other GIS Specialists, data managers, and project managers across the company, providing support on various contracts and projects.Position SummaryThis position functions in a GIS Specialist capacity with appropriate supervision, performing moderate to middle GIS and data management tasks including geospatial and environmental data/database management, map/figure creation, data analysis and reporting, web-based mapping application development, mobile data collection setup and management, and workflow automation. Will work in a team setting to support Project Managers/stakeholders with map/graphic, database, and web-based mapping application development on environmental and disaster management planning projects for various local, State, and Federal clients. Will interface with GIS Discipline Leads/Specialists, Project Managers, Field Personnel, and other Internal and External Clients.Secondary functions may include occasional field work on projects/sites including assisting project managers and field staff with environmental sampling and assessment activities in support of environmental investigation and/or emergency response activities. Responsibilities may include supporting field staff with the collection, documentation, and management of soil, air, and water samples, operation of equipment used for field studies (not including machinery), interpretation of sample data, and assisting with the preparation of data summary reports. Field work may require overnight travel and extensive work outdoors.Essential Job FunctionsThe following duties are considered essential to the role. Discover your full potential – join us to advance your career while leaving a lasting legacy.Required Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Information Systems, Environmental Science, or closely related field.• Preferred 5+ years demonstrated work experience performing GIS tasks.• Knowledge, skills, experience (Cannot hire if the candidate does not have): • Strong knowledge on geospatial and cartographic processes, as well as spatial projections• Fundamental knowledge and experience with Esri desktop (ArcGIS Pro), ArcGIS Online, and mobile suite of applications (Survey123, Field Maps, QuickCapture)• Experience developing web-based mapping applications (using Esri Experience Builder, Dashboards, StoryMaps), Survey123 forms, and maps for use with mobile products.• Experience managing geospatial information in Esri file geodatabases.• Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office suite.Must be capable of passing a U.S. Government background check for work on federal contracts.Must be a citizen of the United States.Preferred Qualifications• Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced consulting environment and demonstrate organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.• Experience managing geospatial information in Spatial Database Engine (SDE) is highly desirable.• Experience managing information/data in relational database systems such as Microsoft Access or SQL Server.• Experience with Esri ArcGIS Server, Python or other programming languages, Adobe Creative Suite, CAD (AutoDesk and/or Bentley), or other mapping or graphic design software.Physical Requirements• Ability to move supplies and boxes, typically under 25 pounds. • Candidate must be able to work at a computer in an office environment for office-based tasks.Work Environment / Environmental FactorsPrimary work environment is in the office, with remote hybrid work flexibility depending on project requirements.Additional InformationOccasional weekend and evening work may be required.Life at Tetra TechThe perks of working at Tetra Tech include:Comprehensive and market-competitive benefits.Merit-based financial rewards.Flexibility and company-wide commitment to work/life balance.Collaborative team atmosphere that values the contributions of all employees.Learning and development opportunities for ongoing professional growth.
