Job Title: Process Technician (Injection Molding)

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up, optimizing, and troubleshooting plastic injection molding processes on 3rd shift in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will work hands-on with injection molding machines, hot runner systems, robotics, and auxiliary equipment to ensure consistent product quality, minimize downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Set up, start, and monitor injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment to meet production requirements.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot process issues, including part defects, machine malfunctions, and hot runner system failures.
• Perform mold changes, machine adjustments, and parameter tuning to maintain consistent product quality and cycle efficiency.
• Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to implement process improvements and corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate documentation of process settings, changes, and maintenance activities.
• Conduct root cause analysis on recurring process and mold issues and implement long-term corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and production standards at all times.
• Train operators and junior technicians on proper machine operation, troubleshooting techniques, and safe work practices.
• Troubleshoot molding process issues such as flash, short shots, sinks, splay, and other cosmetic or dimensional defects.
• Assist in performing mold changes and setups within scheduled mold change timeframes using process and cycle sheets.
• Program molding work cell robot arms and assembly station equipment as required.
• Change out, purge, and maintain material and central material feed systems as needed to support production.
• Troubleshoot mold problems, develop root cause analysis, and provide quick, permanent corrective actions, including minor repairs when appropriate.
• Coordinate mold setup activities with production schedules to minimize downtime and maximize production efficiency.
• Use hand and power tools safely for installation, service, repair, and mechanical adjustments related to injection molding equipment.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in injection molding with hands-on troubleshooting and process optimization responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of hot runner systems, mold setup, and thermoplastic materials.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, machine manuals, and process documentation.
• Experience in troubleshooting molding defects such as flash, short shots, sinks, and splay.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in injection molding manufacturing.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a process technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Basic knowledge and safe use of hand and power tools.
• Troubleshooting skills in pneumatics, electronics, and mechanical systems related to injection molding equipment.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance and basic repairs on production equipment.
• Familiarity with electrical concepts, conduit, blueprints, schematics, PLC troubleshooting, and PLC control at a basic level.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work 2nd and 3rd shift hours as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Technical certification or associate degree in manufacturing, plastics, or mechanical technology is preferred.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• At least 1 year of experience in a mold setup role.
• At least 1 year of experience working with diagrams, blueprints, schematics, gauges, and measuring instruments.
• At least 1 year of experience troubleshooting mold problems and implementing permanent corrective actions.
• General computer skills, including typing and use of Microsoft 365 or similar software.
• Experience in installation, service, and repair of industrial or mechanical equipment.
• Comfort working in an industrial plastics environment with automated machinery and robotics.

Work Environment

The role is based in a plastics industrial environment with closed-door climate control, providing a comfortable and consistent working temperature. The facility features new machinery and equipment within a warehouse setting, currently operating in a shared space with plans to expand into the full facility as operations grow. You will work around injection molding machines, hot runner systems, robotics, and central material feed systems in a production-focused environment. This is an off-shift position that requires flexibility with 2nd and 3rd shift hours. Standard shift schedules operate Monday through Friday with 2nd shift from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and 3rd shift from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Appropriate industrial attire and adherence to safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements are expected.

This is a Contract position based out of Evansville, IN.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
