Intervention Specialist

Intervention SpecialistThe primary focus of the Intervention Specialist is to provide support for school age scholars who need extra behavioral support in continuing their education. The Specialist will work with assigned scholars by keeping them engaged in the learning process, which will lead to school success. The Specialist will also work with parents and families as requested by the principal or Public Safety Office personnel.Essential functions under the Americans with Disabilities Act may include any of the following duties, knowledge, and skills. Other essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:Assist with team approach (student, family, teachers, specialist, and principal) to assess appropriate interventionVisit with identified students to identify suitable options and help resolveAssist students with being proactive in making choices that will lead to theirDevelop a positive relationship with students and schoolWork as part of the school team and assist with creating a safe and orderly environmentAssist other staff members in monitoring the halls and encouraging students to attendMake telephone calls to parents and home visits ifParticipate with the school team in reviewing student data on attendance, suspensions, and expulsion and compare to last year's data.Attend assignedOther duties asQualifications:Education and Experience:High School Diploma or equivalent.A minimum of one semester of post-Secondary course work at an institute of hiring learning.Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience working in educational setting.Experience working with at-risk students andExperience in education, criminal justice, social work and/or humanKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to effectively function as a professional team memberPossesses high level of communication skills (oral and written).Must be able to deal with the multiplicity of an urban communityADA Requirements:The physical demands, work environment factors, and mental functions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
