POSITION OVERVIEW

The pharmacy technician prepares medications for patient consumption under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with departmental procedures.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist, maintaining quality control and following accepted standards and departmental policies. Reads and interprets physicians’ orders and transcribes them into the pharmacy computer medication profile. Participates in ongoing training, seminars and educational classes to maintain competency and current knowledge. Follows all agency safety, health and regulatory standards. Initiates and implements measures to provide high quality care and improve services. Responds timely to patient and provider staff needs and inquiries. Provides excellent customer service to all patients. Handles patient grievances according to policy and procedure. Assists in developing, updating, and reviewing policies and procedures. Ensures HIPAA compliance by maintaining confidentiality of patient data. Attends mandatory quarterly staff meetings and other meetings as scheduled. Stays informed of regulatory changes and patient care programs. Responds to on‑demand “STAT” orders and delivers them. Participates in pharmacy tech meetings to exchange ideas and update the manual. Removes outdated medication from stock and keeps records. Assists with billing, using appropriate reason codes and dates. Checks in orders, puts orders away and files paperwork. Continues education by attending drug in‑services and updates on policy changes. Maintains competency in caring for patients of all age groups. Completes all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma. Two years of retail pharmacy experience (preferred). Fluency in Spanish (speaking and writing). Certificate from hospital‑based pharmacy technical training program, junior college graduate, or state certification as Pharmacy Technician. Experience in an FQHC (highly preferred). Excellent analytical skills. Motivation to ensure tasks are completed thoroughly and accurately. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of administrative principles and procedures. Computer proficiency (e.g., NextGen, Microsoft Word, Excel, Digital Rx). Bilingual English/Spanish; familiarity with Hispanic culture. Availability to work weekends as needed. Ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure. Ability to meet tight time‑sensitive deadlines.
