Job Description: As a campus leader, the Chief Enrollment Officer will play a crucial role in recruiting and enrolling talented students from diverse populations. Additional key components of this dynamic role are collaborating across campus, creating innovative plans and services, mentoring, and supervising a talented enrollment management leadership team, and advocating for UAlbany with external stakeholders, making it an exciting opportunity for a visionary leader in higher education. Enrollment Management at UAlbany sits within the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment and of consists of several major functions, including undergraduate admissions (including enrollment marketing, admissions systems, and the welcome experience), registrar, financial aid, student accounts, transfer admissions, and undergraduate international admissions. The staff consists of approximately 70 full-time professionals, several part-time staff, and many student employees who work in both front-facing and administrative roles. UAlbany's Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment provides students with inclusive, innovative, and impactful educational experiences to learn, lead and thrive today and throughout their lives. The Chief Enrollment Officer will also collaborate with UAlbany's strategic enrollment management council, which focuses on program demand, market trends, enrollment marketing, financial aid, undergraduate student enrollment, and student success. Reporting to the University at Albany's Vice President for Student Affairs & Enrollment, the Chief Enrollment Officer will lead the University's core enrollment functions and help guide the next phase of the institution's enrollment strategy. Building upon recent enrollment successes, the Chief Enrollment Officer will work collaboratively with University leadership to strengthen the systems, structures, and resources necessary to sustain momentum and achieve the University's long-term enrollment objectives. The successful candidate will have demonstrated proficiency in enrollment strategy, resource management, staff development and collaborative leadership. This individual is responsible for ensuring that the budget, planning, and operational functions, and services of the offices of Undergraduate Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Transfer Admissions, International Undergraduate Admissions and associated enrollment systems, work in concert to advance the University's strategic enrollment plan. As a highly relational leader, the chief enrollment officer works closely with the vice provosts, deans, associate deans, department chairs and the broader faculty to facilitate student recruitment, retention, and graduation success. The chief enrollment officer will collaborate with Information Technology Services (ITS) to develop and implement appropriate technology and systems to ensure a coordinated enrollment management effort and cohesive, efficient, and effective service delivery. They will also work in close collaboration with Communications and Marketing to deploy an effective marketing strategy that increases interest in the University and drives applications and deposits. Finally, the chief enrollment officer will partner with the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Effectiveness, fully utilizing their abilities in data management and analysis. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of UAlbany's diverse student population. In addition, the successful candidate will have proficiency in data analysis with a proven record of successfully using data-informed decision-making methods to achieve student success. The chief enrollment officer is responsible for the development and execution of the strategic enrollment management plan, in collaboration with the president, provost, vice presidents, and UAlbany's strategic enrollment management council. This includes developing, implementing, and achieving an enrollment management strategy built upon quantitative analysis, strategic decision-making, and an ethos of continuous improvement, while fostering a culture that emphasizes student service, communication, transparency, innovation, flexibility, and collaboration. Primary Responsibilities: Strategic Enrollment Leadership & Institutional Planning Advance and continuously refine the University's established Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) strategy, building on recent enrollment gains through innovative, data-informed, and market-responsive initiatives that support a diverse student population and an expanding academic portfolio. Provide strategic leadership for undergraduate, international, transfer, and professional enrollment initiatives, ensuring coordinated recruitment and enrollment strategies that strengthen the University's competitive position. Partner closely with Academic Affairs, the schools and colleges, and campus leadership to align enrollment strategies with academic priorities, program development, and institutional goals. Foster a campus-wide culture of strategic enrollment management by engaging faculty, staff, and institutional leaders as partners in achieving enrollment and student success goals; including supporting college/school specific recruitment and enrollment strategies. Lead the Strategic Enrollment Management Council in evaluating enrollment priorities, assessing market opportunities, recommending admissions policies and practices, and advancing institutional enrollment objectives. Lead and develop a high-performing enrollment management team while identifying strategic investments in people, technology, systems, and operational effectiveness that position the University for continued success. Lead efforts to strengthen transfer enrollment through strategic community college partnerships, articulation agreements, and pathway programs that expand access for transfer, adult, military-affiliated, and other nontraditional students. Monitor, analyze, and communicate enrollment trends and outcomes across all prospective student populations - including first-year, transfer, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Honors College, out-of-state, international and other student segments - and use data to inform strategic decision-making throughout the recruitment funnel. Collaborate with Academic Affairs, schools, colleges and campus partners to support student persistence, retention, and degree completion initiatives that promote student success and institutional sustainability. Leverage predictive analytics, enrollment modeling, and institutional research to evaluate performance, anticipate market shifts, measure outcomes, and continuously improve enrollment operations and strategies. Demonstrate a strong understanding of demographic, workforce, and higher education market trends, translating insights into enrollment, recruitment, and program development strategies in partnership with academic leadership. Advance equitable enrollment outcomes by strengthening pathways and support systems for first-generation students, historically underserved populations, and other students who benefit from targeted outreach and support. Lead institutional enrollment strategies that support the growth of online, hybrid, and flexible academic programs, partnering with Academic Affairs and the schools and colleges to expand access to new student populations while promoting student success and institutional enrollment goals. Financial Strategy, Operations & Compliance Provide strategic oversight of financial aid leveraging, scholarship optimization, tuition discounting, and enrollment modeling to maximize enrollment outcomes, student access, and net tuition revenue. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, SUNY, and institutional regulations governing financial aid administration and enrollment operations. Partner with the University Registrar to ensure accurate enrollment reporting, regulatory compliance, data integrity, and effective management of institutional reporting obligations. Collaborate with financial leadership to support responsible tuition revenue management, student account practices, and institutional financial sustainability. Partnerships, Marketing & External Engagement Collaborate with University Communications & Marketing to develop and advance a comprehensive, data-informed enrollment marketing and communications strategy that leverages market intelligence, digital marketing, CRM technologies (e.g., Slate or similar platforms), AI-supported recruitment, predictive analytics, automation, and workflow optimization to strengthen prospective student engagement, oversee CRM communications, analyze enrollment funnels, and improve recruitment outcomes across undergraduate, graduate, and professional student populations. Expand and strengthen partnerships with K-12 schools, community colleges, and community organizations to enhance enrollment pipelines through dual enrollment, transfer pathways, and programs such as UAlbany in the High School. Serve as a visible ambassador for the University, representing UAlbany at campus, regional, and national events while cultivating relationships with prospective students, families, alumni, educational partners, and other key stakeholders. Supervision Lead and manage direct reports/team providing guidance, support, and performance feedback to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the University's mission. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Complete performance management feedback and goals timely and per requirements, offering constructive feedback and developing improvement plans. In addition, the ideal candidate should demonstrate most of the following professional and personal qualities and qualifications: Leadership in one or more functional areas of enrollment management - admissions, financial aid, and registration. Experience with the successful and collaborative implementation of a bold and dynamic strategic enrollment plan. A proven record of success in managing a dynamic enrollment management team and in growing enrollment. Experience with achieving strong student success results for a diverse student body. Proficiency with change management in large, decentralized higher education organizations. Knowledge of trends, best practices, and emerging issues in higher education enrollment management. Conversant with systems that support university enrollment management, including student information, constituent relationship management, and data collection, reporting/dissemination, and analysis. Understanding and appreciation of large, complex organizations and the myriad roles public research universities play in locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization. A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience that includes leading teams and developing and implementing comprehensive enrollment strategies. Experience in one or more areas of university enrollment management Professional record of advanced staff and strategic leadership in a similarly complex and dynamic organization. Preferred Qualifications: 15 to 20 years of experience in higher education enrollment management Doctorate degree in higher education, Public Policy, Business or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization. Experience working within the State University of New York (SUNY) System.
