Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Empower educators and support visually impaired students by stepping into an impactful, flexible contract opportunity as a Virtual Teacher of the Visually Impaired. This unique, part-time position offers the chance to collaborate with several schools across the district, guiding both students and school-based staff on best practices and innovative strategies. The role is ideal for those who are passionate about mentoring, capacity building, and advocating for accessibility in education.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Florida Educator Certification required
- Experience teaching students who are visually impaired, with proficiency in braille instruction and the use of assistive technology
- Strong skills in coaching and supporting other educators, especially in developing instructional and access strategies
- Adaptability to provide virtual support in an itinerant capacity across multiple school sites
- Able to meet credentialing requirements, including fingerprint clearance through the AHCA Clearinghouse and application for a district-specific badge
Role Responsibilities:
- Partner with school-based staff to build understanding of student needs, focusing on the start of the school year and providing targeted support as capacity and confidence increase
- Deliver specialized expertise in braille, assistive technology, and instructional access for students with visual impairments
- Support teachers working with learners with complex needs and promote consistency across schools
- Collaborate virtually with district TVIs to ensure strong direct service delivery and supplement existing supports
- Provide ongoing, decreasing support over time as staff become empowered and self-sufficient
This contract spans the academic year from August to May, offering approximately 12–15 hours per week of meaningful professional engagement while allowing for a flexible remote schedule.
