This role reads and interprets technical documentation, performs detailed soldering and microscopic assembly work, and ensures all products meet strict quality, performance, and customer specifications. You will work in a clean, climate-controlled environment using specialized tools and equipment to produce high-quality parts with minimal waste and rework.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and work from drawings, blueprints, schematics, work orders, wiring diagrams, product samples, and written or verbal instructions with limited supervision to determine assembly duties and material requirements.
  • Select and prepare electronic components such as transistors, resistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, wires, cables, connectors, and hardware according to specifications and procedural documents.
  • Assemble electronic and mechanical products, systems, and support structures, installing components, units, subassemblies, wiring, and assembly casings using small hand tools and soldering equipment.
  • Perform detailed soldering work on printed circuit boards and wire harnesses, including surface-mount and through-hole components, often under a microscope or other magnifying device.
  • Clean parts and assemblies using appropriate cleaning solutions, air hoses, and cloths to maintain product quality and readiness for further processing.
  • Position, align, and clamp parts in jigs, fixtures, or other holding devices to achieve specified relationships and prepare surfaces for soldering and bonding.
  • Use a variety of test and assembly equipment, including power supplies, multimeters, leak detection and vacuum systems, pressure generators, volt meters, ohmmeters, ovens, soldering equipment, microscopes, and precision hand tools.
  • Measure parts and assemblies to verify tolerances using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Route and connect wires between components, connectors, terminals, and contact points, and connect component lead wires to printed circuit boards according to diagrams and standards.
  • Assemble and attach hardware such as caps, clamps, knobs, and switches to assemblies as required by product designs.
  • Adjust or trim materials and components to achieve specified electrical or dimensional characteristics.
  • Perform intermediate assembly tasks including potting, sanding, cleaning, epoxy bonding, curing, stamping, and etching of parts and assemblies.
  • Trim, prepare, and apply components such as wire, cables, connectors, and resistors using solder and various adhesives as specified by prints and process documents.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electronic component parts to correct defects and ensure conformance to specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform go/no-go testing and visual inspection to verify that parts and assemblies meet quality, performance, and production specifications.
  • Create and update documentation to support process improvements, including engineering change requests (ECR).
  • Collaborate with supervisors or engineers to plan or review work activities and resolve production or process problems.
  • Inspect, test, and adjust completed units to ensure they meet all specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.
  • Produce parts and products efficiently while minimizing waste, rework, and defects.
  • Assemble electronic components, subassemblies, and finished products daily in accordance with established quality specifications and process procedures.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of electronic printed circuit board (PCB) assembly experience.
  • At least 1 year of soldering or wire harnessing experience.
  • At least 1 year of J-Standard electronic assembly experience, including work under a microscope, wire harnessing, soldering assembly, and small parts assembly.
  • Proficiency in electronic assembly and soldering techniques for fine wires and small components.
  • Ability to perform microscopic assembly and soldering work using magnification tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, work orders, and verbal or written instructions.
  • Skill in using small hand tools, soldering irons, and precision tools for assembly and repair.
  • Experience performing go/no-go testing and basic inspection to verify quality and performance.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with quality standards and ESD-safe procedures to protect sensitive electronic components.
  • Capability to use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers to verify tolerances.
  • Comfort working with very fine wires and small quantities of assembly supplies and chemicals.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 1 to 2 years of soldering experience with surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole electronic components.
  • 1 to 2 years of microscopic assembly experience working with fine-pitch components and small parts.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience working with established quality standards and ESD-safe procedures in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience using soldering irons and handling small quantities of assembly supplies and chemicals safely.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience assembling SMT and through-hole electronic components on printed circuit boards.
  • Experience in soldering under a microscope for precision work.
  • Experience in wire harnessing and routing wires between components and connectors.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electronic schematics and technical documentation.
  • Ability to create or contribute to process improvement documentation such as engineering change requests (ECR).
