Work Schedule: Full-time/ Shifts are 10-12 hours with rotating days and weekends

Pay Rate: $41.00 - $47.00 / Hour depending on experience and qualifications

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing the Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing respiratory care services in accordance with specific physician’s orders, state and federal guidelines, and department policies and procedures.

JOB DUTIES:

• Maintain knowledge of the varying aspects of all things Pulmonary as allowed within the therapist scope and licensure of the long-term care facility.
• Administer respiratory therapy treatments and interventions, understanding the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each.
• Be able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation. Makes appropriate nursing contact for intervention.
• Follow departmental equipment sterilization procedures and maintain effective infection control.
• Document all pertinent data on the patient’s medical record following completion of any extensions of the Pulmonary Program.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on residents of varying acuity and age and life station.
• Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly. Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of hazards of oxygen therapy.
• Formulate care plan based on identified learning needs of a patient and evaluate effectiveness of learning. Patient’s family is included in teaching as appropriate.
• Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity. Coordinate and direct patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and that physician orders and facility policy are followed.
• Demonstrate ability to assess patient, his/her need, and ability to tolerate treatment and reassess for response to treatment.
• Demonstrate ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.
• Demonstrate ability to deal with a variety of people, handle stressful situations, and manage conflict.
• Attend and conduct education in‑service programs to maintain professional competency. Obtain appropriate program‑specific education and training.
• Perform all additional duties as assigned by the department manager.
• In charge therapist role, responsible for the daily operation of the shift, including work assignments, troubleshooting, responding to emergencies, and liaison with nurses, Director of Nursing, the Administrator and Physicians.
• Remain proficient in PFT’s and Bronchoscopes’.
• Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned to you at any time with or without notice from the PPC or NHA.

REQUIREMENTS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

• Current State Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
• Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Respiratory Therapy.
• Possesses and maintains an active CRT or RRT credential.
• Current ACLS and BLS Certification.
• Must be able to fluently read, write, and speak English.
• Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
• Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
• Communicates and complies with the Sweetwater Mission, Vision, and Values as well as the focus statement of the department.
• Complies with State and Federal Guidelines, along with Organizational Policies and Procedures.
• Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.
