About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to establish and lead the legal and compliance framework essential for the development and deployment of advanced nuclear energy systems. This pivotal role involves serving as the primary legal partner to the executive team and various operational functions, with a focus on government contracts, regulatory matters, and export controls. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all legal aspects of the company's activities, including but not limited to, supporting government-funded programs, drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, and ensuring compliance with nuclear safety and export control regulations. The General Counsel will also be instrumental in defining the company's legal infrastructure, managing external counsel, and providing strategic legal advice to enable the company's rapid growth while mitigating legal, regulatory, and reputational risks. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a JD from an accredited law school, active bar membership, and a minimum of 12 years' legal experience. The role requires a candidate with a strong background in at least two of the following areas: government contracting, nuclear or regulated environments, and export controls. Experience in managing government contracts and government-funded programs, as well as hands-on experience in building or leading an export controls compliance program, is essential. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in a high-growth technology or deep tech company, be adept at operating in a start-up environment, and possess the ability to manage ambiguity and wear multiple hats. Deep familiarity with NRC licensing processes, DOE contracting vehicles, and nuclear materials regulations is highly preferred. The role demands a strategic thinker who is unafraid to challenge conventions and is dedicated to the mission of the company.
