About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years PCU RN experience. Will accept first-time travelers with 2 years of perm staff (acute care) RN experience. Travelers must be separated for 1 year if previously a perm staff. License: Active RN License Required Certifications: Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS. Preferred: LVAD certification. Must-Have: Traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival. General PCU skill set includes titrating cardiac drips, insulin drips, and vasopressors. Familiarity with chest tubes, tracheostomies, central line management, and management of drains/tubes is necessary. Candidates should have experience in wound care and managing venous sheaths, TR Bands, and temporary pacemakers is preferred. Description: This position is for a registered nurse in a progressive care unit. The unit consists of 24-25 beds, divided among cardiac stepdown and medical stepdown patients. Patient ratios are typically 1:3-4. The patient population includes individuals who have undergone CABG, lung surgery, and other cardiac interventions, as well as those with medical conditions like respiratory failure and sepsis. The ideal candidate will monitor and intervene with patients who require frequent assessments and care. Support on the unit includes 2 techs during the day and 1 tech at night, along with a charge nurse who may or may not have a patient assignment. A resource nurse, head RN, and PCC are available during regular hours. The role involves the use of an EMR charting system and IV pumps. Staff is expected to work every other weekend and will work a schedule of 4 days one week and 3 days the next. Travelers may request time off, but must adhere to the specified guidelines for time-off requests. Successful candidates will be part of a diverse team and will receive support throughout their assignment. Scrub colors required are pewter, with t-shirts in gray, white, or black options. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times. This position is ideal for skilled RNs looking to enhance their experience in a dynamic nursing environment.
