Our Maintenance-of-Way equipment is designed to ensure our customers receive the benefit of improved safety, performance and reliability. The Quality Technician will report to the Quality Manager and play a vital role in ensuring our products meet internal and customer expectations for quality and performance. This position supports quality assurance processes through inspection, testing, documentation, and collaboration with production, engineering, and supply chain teams. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and motivated to contribute to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. Electrical experience is a must for this position. 55% Inspection & Testing: Perform in-process, final, and incoming inspections on mechanical and electrical components. Use hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify part compliance. Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications to assess conformance. Document inspection results accurately and consistently in accordance with established procedures. 20% Technical Support & Customer Assistance: Provide technical support via phone and email for both current and legacy equipment. Assist customers with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues. Document support cases and elevate unresolved issues to the engineering or quality management teams as needed. Serve as a liaison between field feedback and internal teams to identify recurring issues and drive product improvements. 15% Quality System Support: Assist in maintaining and improving the Quality Management System (QMS). Support non-conformance reporting and help investigate root causes. Maintain calibration records and ensure equipment is properly maintained. Participate in internal audits and quality improvement initiatives. 5% Work closely with production and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence. Communicate inspection results and quality concerns in a clear, constructive manner. Provide feedback and suggestions to improve process reliability and product performance. 5% Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and customer requirements. Support documentation needed for audits and customer reports. Skills & Qualifications: Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical/hydraulic schematics. Familiarity with hand tools, measuring instruments, and quality inspection techniques. Strong attention to detail, recordkeeping, and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in a manufacturing or mechanical assembly environment. Exposure to ISO-based Quality Management Systems. Familiarity with 12/24VDC electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics. Experience using ERP or inventory systems (e.g., SAP, Epicor, Syspro). Background in the rail or heavy equipment industry. Shop floor, outdoor test track and office environment. Moderate physical activity; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Regular exposure to industrial hazards (PPE provided).
