Customs Brokerage/Logistics Specialist

Location: Franklin Square, NY 11010
Job Type: Temp-to-Hire
Pay: $28.00-31.00/hour

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Customs Brokerage/Logistics Specialist to support customs clearance operations and serve as a key customer service liaison. This role will process customs and other government agency (OGA) entries, coordinate shipments, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure compliance with U.S. government and carrier regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a customer service liaison between the company and customers.
• Process Customs and OGA (Other Government Agency) entries for clearance of goods entering the United States.
• Open files and enter notes, information, and document requests into CargoWise and/or AS400 .
• Classify commercial invoices according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) .
• Request necessary information and documentation from employees, suppliers, service providers, and U.S. government agencies.
• Communicate with internal departments, offices, and teams regarding customs brokerage issues.
• Maintain organized files containing document requests, correspondence, and shipping documentation.
• Ensure compliance with U.S. government agencies, including FDA, EPA, FCC, Fish & Wildlife , and other applicable agencies.
• Coordinate shipping details with U.S. forwarders, steamship lines, airlines, agents, and other transportation providers.
• Convert and verify shipment weights, volumes, and foreign currency.
• Maintain timely and professional communication with customers, carriers, and vendors.
• Coordinate shipment pickups and invoice files.
• Assist customers with questions, complaints, requests, tracking, and tracing.
• Accurately and efficiently handle applicable accounting processes.
• Coordinate shipments from airlines, ocean piers, and CFS (Container Freight Stations) to customer/consignee destinations.
• Review and issue documentation as needed to meet government and carrier regulations.
• Understand buying and selling rates to help ensure shipment profitability.
• Respond promptly and professionally to emails and telephone calls.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in customs brokerage , or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of U.S. Customs and Other Government Agency (OGA) requirements .
• Knowledge of customs clearance procedures for freight entering the United States.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Access, and Excel .
• Experience with CargoWise and/or AS400 preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external customers.
• Excellent organizational and planning skills.
• Ability to read and interpret documents and instructions.
• Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use sound judgment.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in calculations.
• Strong commitment to accuracy, compliance, and customer service.
