TEMPORARY Limited Commission Ranger - Golden Gate Canyon State Park (Housing Available).

Position Temporary Park Ranger (up to nine months, approx. late July 2026), up to 40 hours per week. Pay $20.00 per hour. Assigned to Golden Gate Canyon State Park, Colorado Parks and Wildlife. About the Department The Colorado Department of Natural Resources manages the state’s natural resources. Colorado Parks and Wildlife preserves wildlife, maintains state parks, and provides sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities. Responsibilities Issue citations for violations. Conduct patrols of park areas by vehicle (off‑highway vehicles, snowmobiles, bicycles, etc.) or by foot. Respond to emergencies and resolve visitor complaints. Complete reports and may be required to appear in court. Assist in daily park operations, including: Revenue, fee collection, verification, basic accounting, and deposits. General park or facility maintenance such as cleaning public facilities (restrooms, vault toilets, campsites, picnic areas, trails, etc.) as needed. Visitor services operations such as education and interpretive programs. Additional duties may apply to lake, river, and backcountry recreation parks. Other duties as assigned. School schedules may be accommodated. Requirements Must be 21 years of age or older. Must possess a current and valid driver’s license required for operating a state vehicle and an acceptable driving record. Federal law prohibits illegal drug use. Use of marijuana within the past 12 months or any illegal drugs within the past 36 months will disqualify an applicant. Convictions of a felony, domestic violence charge, or any misdemeanor that prohibits POST certification for Colorado Peace Officer standards will disqualify an applicant. Successful completion of a comprehensive background check is required. Must be available to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and may involve work during inclement weather. Must be able to perform outdoor physical work requiring climbing in and out of vehicles and/or under trailers. The worksite will provide some uniform items; the employee may need to purchase limited items at their own expense. Must attend and complete required Colorado State Park training (may include exposure to OC spray). Must have or be able to attain valid current First Aid and CPR certifications. Must work with limited supervision and be a team player. Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service. Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google Apps Suite). Preference may be given to applicants with or pursuing a Natural Resources degree or similar education. Previous experience handling money and interacting with the public is preferred. Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during the workday. Pursuant to the DNR‑120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a state‑owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver’s license prior to driving such a vehicle. Physical Requirements Perform physical activities requiring use of arms and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Must be able to perceive color differences and hear verbal and radio communications.
