Limited Commissioned Ranger / Lead Inspector - Loma Port of Entry

Temporary Position (9 months or less) – Pay: $19 per hour. Employment starts 03/08/2026 through 10/31/2026. Responsibilities Perform boat inspector and decontaminator duties at Loma Port of Entry, including on‑the‑job training for inspection staff, schedule creation, shift coverage, accurate time‑keeping record verification, and recommendations for hiring/firing to the Invasive Species Specialist. Ensure inspection station staff follow standardized protocols by conducting monthly quality‑control assessments, verifying accurate data entry, maintaining inventory of supplies, performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting of the power washer/decontamination unit, and conducting public outreach on aquatic invasive species. Work early morning, evening, and weekend shifts as required. Enforce Colorado Parks and Wildlife rules and regulations and issue citations for violations. Resolve visitor complaints and conflicts. Complete reports and may need to appear in court. Answer questions regarding aquatic invasive species. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be 21 years of age or older. Must have a current, valid driver's license for operating a state vehicle and an acceptable driving record (verified during a comprehensive background check). If marijuana was used within the past 12 months or any illegal drug within the past 36 months, the applicant will be disqualified. If convicted of a felony, domestic violence charge, or any misdemeanor that prohibits POST certification, the applicant will be disqualified. Successful completion of a comprehensive background check is required. Must be available for various shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays, and inclement weather. This position requires outdoor physical work that may involve climbing in and out of vessels/vehicles and/or under trailers. The work‑site will provide some uniform items; the employee may be required to purchase limited items at their own expense. Must attend and successfully complete required Colorado State Park training (may include exposure to OC spray). Must have or be able to attain valid current First Aid and CPR certifications. Must be able to work with limited supervision and effectively within a team. Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills to deliver excellent customer service. Basic computer skills required (MS Office Suite, Google App Suite). Preference may be given to applicants with or working toward a Natural Resources degree or similar education. Physical Requirements This position will perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials, as well as the ability to perceive color differences and to hear verbal and radio communications.
