Camp Counselor for Special Needs The Mid-Island Y JCC, the Center of it all, is looking for Summer Camp Counselors for Camp Adler for Special Needs! Summary Oversee children and/or teens with special needs in a camp setting. Essential Functions Model and promote the organization’s mission, values and guiding principles through positive attitude, appropriate appearance, words, and actions, while complying with organization’s policies and procedures. Support campers with special needs during all activities throughout the camp day. Keep campers safe during the camp day. Assist specialists during activities which may include swimming, yoga, sports, art and music. Demonstrate respect and sensitivity toward campers and families. Attend all staff meetings and orientations held during the camp season. May be assigned to other tasks and duties as directed by supervisors and the Board. Position Type / Expected Hours of Work This is a seasonal position. Hours are typically 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday‑Friday. Some late‑night and overnight work is expected depending on placement. Camp runs from June 30 2025 to August 22 2025. Required Education and Experience High School diploma or equivalent. Experience working with children, especially those with special needs. Knowledge and Skills Active listening. Active learning. Speaking. Patience. Time management. Judgment and decision making. Understanding of special needs that campers could have.
