Facilities Lead Worker
Seattle Parks and Facilities Maintenance Division is seeking a Facilities Lead Worker to help support and guide the Play Area/Recreation Equipment team. In this role, you will work with the Construction and Repair Crew Chief to install, maintain, and repair a wide range of park infrastructure, including play area equipment, sport courts, benches, picnic tables, barbecues, signs, and other park furnishings.
Under general supervision, you will plan, schedule, coordinate, and lead the work of staff responsible for equipment installation, site preparation, routine custodial maintenance, and event-related set-ups or change-overs in parks and public assembly facilities. The position requires knowledge of playground and recreation equipment, safe work practices, proper use of hand and power tools, and effective techniques for leading a crew.
This role involves independent decision-making, interpreting and following established procedures, and working with internal teams, other City departments, contractors, and the public to ensure high-quality maintenance and service delivery.
We are currently recruiting for one (1) regular, benefited position on the Day Shift.
Job Responsibilities
- Leads and oversees the work of subordinates performing a variety of facility maintenance projects
- Plans, schedules, and evaluates the work of subordinate staff
- Provides direction and technical lead expertise for a variety of maintenance activities and coordinates work with skilled crafts and with other departmental work units
- Performs on-site training and evaluation ensuring performance standards are met
- Performs the duties of the installation maintenance laborer
- Maintains parts and material inventory records
- Assess and prioritize work orders, ensuring efficient completion and closing
- Trouble shoot play equipment and other parks furnishing for repair needs
- Ensure proper public notice for equipment repair and service downtime
- Assist crew chief with daily dispatch of staff
- Assist with plan and project review recommendations
- Plan and coordinate larger projects
- Perform certificate and license audits
- Request utility locates for projects requiring excavation
- Coordinate and assist with concrete and asphalt repairs
- Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years experience performing general laboring/manual work, good physical condition, and the ability to work with hand and power tools is required. (Or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
License, Certification, and Other Requirements:
- Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
- Must have the ability to become CPSI (Certified Playground Safety Inspector) within one year.

- Experience leading, training, and overseeing the work of subordinates performing a variety of facility maintenance activities and projects.
- Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
- Experience coordination work with both internal and external work groups such as skilled trades, contractors, and other maintenance groups.
- Strong ability to lead by example, displaying a positive, can-do attitude.
- Experience developing training programs for staff and end users.
- Forklift Safety and Operations Certification.
- Scissor and/or boom lift experience.
- Experience in concrete and asphalt repair and maintenance.
- Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing infrastructure in a public setting to include play area equipment, sport courts, signs, benches, picnic tables, barbecues, and a variety of other park furnishings.
- Experience performing inspections, ordering parts and materials, and maintaining relevant inventory records.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks, aligning them with departmental needs.
- Be highly motivated and able to work as a team member in a demanding work environment, meeting tight deadlines.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to use standard office software and work order/asset management systems for tasks such as record-keeping, reporting, and communication.
- Competence in maintaining clear and comprehensive written records.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate maintenance activities, convey operational needs, concerns, and procedures.
- Exhibit a high level of proficiency in verbal communication to convey information effectively and professionally.
- Experience in interacting with the public coupled with a high level of proficiency in customer service.
- Experience maintaining multiple municipal or large commercial facilities.

Compensation:
This position is part of the 3-Step Compensation program; The full salary range for this position is $39.18 (Step 1) $42.22 (Step 3) hourly.

This position is represented by LiUNA Local 242 - Laborers and is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
