Quality Engineer

Our client, an Automotive company, is looking for a Quality Engineer for their Redford, MI location. Responsibilities include researching and testing the design, functionality and maintenance of products, equipment, systems and processes and developing quality standards. A typical quality engineer has the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and evaluate product integrity and standards. They coordinate quality objectives with other departments, drive continuous improvement by developing and implementing error and mistake proofing, and keep management abreast of progress, developments and pending problems. They analyze assembly process data to look for trends or possible upcoming concerns, work with Advanced Quality Tools to ensure a quality assembly process, and analyze SPC data and work with manufacturing engineering to make process improvements. Knowledge of GD&T and CMM operations is required. They facilitate others in the executions of Quality Improvement activities and work in a plant environment, working hands-on with engine assembly. This is a plant-floor-forward role. Most of the shift is spent actively engaged in the production environment, not behind a desk. Meetings make up 5–10% of the role, floor work 50–60%, and data and collaboration 30–40%. The team supports quality control and production assurance for HDEP engine assembly. Contractor will work alongside two other QA engineers.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in engineering, 2–4 years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, experience with SPC data analysis, proficiency with advanced quality tools, including PFMEAs, knowledge of GD&T and CMM operations, ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and technical drawings, experience analyzing assembly process data to identify trends and drive corrective action, and comfort working in a fast-paced plant environment and building rapport with hourly production staff. Ability to handle conflict professionally and drive issues to resolution under pressure is also required. The strongest candidates will bring the right technical foundation paired with the right mindset — someone who is motivated by challenge, comfortable with ambiguity, and capable of owning issues independently from day one.
