Overview

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Camp Director and/or Program Coordinator, the Assistant Camp Director supports the daily operation and supervision of assigned camp programs. The Assistant Camp Director assists in ensuring the safety, development, and well-being of all campers while providing leadership and guidance to camp staff. This position helps oversee daily schedules, program implementation, staff supervision, and facility use. The Assistant Camp Director assists in coordinating youth or teen day camps, enforcing policies and procedures, and maintaining a positive camp environment. As a member of the FJCC Summer Leadership Team, the Assistant Camp Director is expected to work collaboratively with ALL camp and building staff. Pre-Camp Duties Complete all required paperwork by assigned deadlines Complete all required trainings and certifications Review and follow updated policies and procedures Assist with staff training, orientation, and onboarding Communicate concerns, issues, or updates directly to the Camp Director Build positive working relationships with camp and building staff Essential Functions Follow and help enforce all Camp Handbook guidelines, policies, and procedures Assist in overseeing daily camp operations, schedules, and program flow Provide direct supervision, guidance, and support to Camp Counselors Support group supervision with attention to safety, health, behavior management, camper engagement, and skill development Help train, mentor, and support new and returning camp counselors Lead and support indoor and outdoor recreational activities Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate programs including arts and crafts, sports, games, special events, and field trips Promote camper participation and foster a positive, inclusive camp culture Serve as a role model by demonstrating professional behavior at all times Assist in maintaining camper attendance, records, incident reports, and documentation Ensure awareness of camper medical needs and emergency procedures Address camper behavior concerns and assist with conflict resolution Collaborate with the Camp Director to address issues related to facilities, programming, staffing, and campers Provide customer service and support to parents/guardians as needed Report all accidents, incidents, or injuries immediately to the Camp Director Monitor staff well-being and report concerns related to illness or exhaustion Assist with enforcement of camp rules and policies under the guidance of the Camp Director Assist in maintaining, inventorying, and caring for equipment and supplies Demonstrate good judgment, leadership, and willingness to accept responsibility Perform other related duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Program Coordinator Minimum Qualifications Minimum age of 18 years old Completion of 12th grade by the start of camp Strong interest, maturity and judgment in working with children in an outdoor setting Knowledge and experience in camp related activities preferred Possess the ability to work as a team member with other counselors and senior staff members Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient and willing to learn Marginal Functions Knowledge of basic computer programs, including Word, Excel and Internet. Hours Typically 7:00am-3:00pm or 10:00am-6:00pm Physical Requirements of Work Ability to work primarily indoors and is occasionally subject to outdoor environmental conditions – no effective protection from the weather conditions or temperature changes. The employee performs tasks outdoors related to recreational programs, weather can be hot in the summer, etc., while in the fall and spring can be cool/cold. Employee should have the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly, in addition to the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Have the ability to lift, reach handle, finger, kneel, bend, stand for long periods of time, talk, hear, feel, smell, climb, maintain balance, stoop, crouch, crawl, and see the nature of the object by the eye.
