The Boat Builder is a skilled and detail-oriented professional responsible for assembling boat hulls, decks, and related structural components according to engineering drawings and quality standards. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical processes, hand tools, and technical instructions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity, safety, fit, and finish of watercraft throughout the manufacturing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Structural Assembly: Read and interpret Standard Operating Procedures, technical drawings, and work orders to assemble hulls, decks, bulkheads, stringers, transoms, and other structural components.
• Component Fitting: Measure, align, fit, and secure components using hand tools, power tools, jigs, fixtures, and precision measuring instruments to achieve precise tolerances.
• Materials Application: Apply adhesives, sealants, resins, bonding materials, epoxy, and composites as required.
• Hardware Installation: Install hardware, reinforcements, and structural supports during the assembly process.
• Quality Control & Inspection: Perform visual and dimensional quality checks throughout assembly to identify defects, gaps, or deviations from engineering specifications.
• Rework & Problem Solving: Identify, troubleshoot, and repair or rework assembly issues as directed by supervisors or quality personnel to maintain production schedules.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of assembly processes, inspections, and any structural modifications made during production.
• Tool & Equipment Maintenance: Care for assembly tools, pneumatic equipment, and machinery; report malfunctions and keep work areas clean.
• Team Collaboration & Training: Work closely with other assemblers, technicians, and designers; assist in training new employees on assembly procedures and safety practices.
• Continuous Improvement: Support and actively participate in process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance safety.
• Time Management: Complete assigned tasks within specified time frames to meet strict manufacturing goals and deadlines.

Qualifications & Preferred Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous manufacturing, assembly, fiberglass, marine, or construction experience preferred.
• Ability to read measuring devices, blueprints, and basic assembly drawings.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, technical problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic.
• Experience using pneumatic tools, power tools, and hand tools.
• Knowledge of marine construction methods, finishing, and materials.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, reach, and climb for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Ability to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Working Conditions

• Environment: Open shop floor manufacturing environment.
• Climate: Non-climate-controlled environment where temperatures fluctuate with outside weather (frequent exposure to high heat and humidity during summer months).
• Hazards: Regular exposure to dust, noise spikes, moving mechanical parts, resins, fiberglass dust/cloths, epoxy, and other chemical compounds.
• Safety: Mandatory requirement to wear safety glasses, respiratory protection, and all other required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while on the production floor.

Actual pay will be based on applicant's skills, education, relevant work experience, market rate and other qualifications.
