Experienced Fire Installer (union)

Johnson Controls is a leading technology provider in building systems. The Fire Alarm & Fire Suppression Systems Technician will install, program, configure, commission, and service fire alarm and fire suppression equipment at customer sites. Responsibilities Install, program, configure, commission, and service fire alarm and fire suppression systems, including Simplex, Fike, Kidde, Inergen, Sapphire, FM‑200, CO₂ and related building system products. Execute projects on time and within allocated installation hours. Work with the project manager to resolve discrepancies and coordination problems that impede installation activities. Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Read and interpret complicated blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software systems, programs, schematics, and operational product manuals. Coordinate installation activities with all trades to optimize installation time. Attend all required site meetings. Instruct and train customers on the functional operation of equipment and systems. Conduct simulations and answer customer questions. Exhibit excellent customer service skills by consistently communicating with district staff and customers to ensure satisfaction. Complete project documentation promptly. Adhere to all OSHA and SimplexGrinnell safety policies and procedures. Participate in a scheduled on‑call rotation. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Three (3) years documented experience in low‑voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems. Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, submittals, and operational/product manuals. Proficiency with hand tools, test equipment, multimeters, digital analyzers, and commissioning devices. Ability to obtain and retain any required licenses under national, state, and local codes. Capable of performing physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50‑70 lbs. Ability to work in difficult positions: climbing ladders, scaffolding, high‑lift equipment up to 40 ft, ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements. Strong customer‑service orientation. Ability to lead and work well with team members. Adherence to safety guidelines and procedures at all times. Strong organizational skills and a positive attitude. Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Pass a pre‑employment background and drug test. Travel may be required overnight. Preferred: NICET Level II certification, local/state licenses, knowledge of local fire codes. Compensation and Benefits Pay Range: Starting at $32.00 an hour. Hourly rate determined by CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role; exceptional candidates may bring unique skills that exceed this range.
