Description Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry counties. The agency links communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service. The Engineering Department is responsible for building and maintaining the majority of Metra’s fixed assets, including buildings, stations, bridges, track, electrical, telecommunications, and signal systems. The department also monitors and assists in maintaining fixed assets on the freight lines where Metra trains operate. It is divided into two major groups: Capital Projects, and Communications and Maintenance. Role Overview Reporting to the Manager, PTC Configuration Management, the Sr. Configuration Management Analyst implements and maintains the positive train control (PTC) program and engineering department’s configuration management (CM) processes for change requests, configuration, defect, and release management. The analyst assists with day‑to‑day and long‑term department CM operations, coordination, and planning. The primary duties include: leading department and project meetings; tracking, documenting, and distributing action items; serving as the agency liaison on the CAB for PTC interoperability; developing CM policies, procedures, and workflows; providing instruction on processes and software; assisting with updating instructional materials; ensuring changes and defects are recorded, documented, and addressed appropriately; preparing for and conducting functional configuration audits; recommending and verifying changes; providing Level 1 and Level 2 troubleshooting support for the PLM system; establishing and supporting baseline sets of configuration items for complex integrated hardware and software systems; coordinating team day‑to‑day activities; assigning tasks and monitoring performance; fostering a safe work environment. The role does not include supervisory responsibilities. Salary and Benefits Salary Range: $89,287.00 – $133,931.00. The final salary will depend on the candidate’s qualifications. Those with at least eight years of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a STEM‑related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four (4) years in engineering or information technology systems. Five (5) years of experience in configuration or change management. Knowledge of configuration, change, defect, and release management processes, concepts, principles, and techniques for a wide range of configuration‑controlled items. Knowledge of configuration planning and controls. Knowledge of contract requirements, specifications, and deliverables associated with configuration management processes. Knowledge of CM industry standards and regulatory requirements. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Access) or similar productivity systems. Proficiency with Bentley ProjectWise, AssetWise, or similar PLM tools. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to manage projects, interact with stakeholders, and facilitate meetings. Strong organization, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment. Ability to work independently and on a team. Ability to keep abreast of new CM technologies, innovations, and trends. Willingness to travel within Metra’s six‑county region. Availability to work flexible hours in the early morning, late afternoon, evenings, or weekends. Preferred Experience with PLM systems.
