Sr Configuration Mgmt Analyst

About the Job Metra is the fourth busiest commuter rail system in the United States, serving the northeastern Illinois region. This position supports the Engineering Department’s configuration management processes for the Positive Train Control (PTC) program across both capital projects and communications & maintenance groups. Responsibilities Lead department and project meetings; track, document, and distribute action items; represent the agency on the Change Advisory Board (CAB) and serve as liaison on PTC interoperability. Develop and refine configuration management (CM) policies, procedures, and workflows for change, configuration, defect, and release management. Provide instruction and support for CM processes and the PLM system. Record and address changes and defects, conduct functional configuration audits, and recommend and verify changes. Establish and support baseline sets of configuration items for integrated hardware and software systems. Coordinate day‑to‑day team activities, assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide training, while promoting safe work practices. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science or a STEM-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling four (4) years in engineering or IT systems. At least five (5) years of experience in configuration or change management. In-depth knowledge of configuration, change, defect, and release management processes, concepts, principles, and techniques for configuration‑controlled items. Experience with configuration planning and controls. Knowledge of contract requirements, specifications, and deliverables linked to configuration management. Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements for CM. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Access) or equivalent. Proficiency with Bentley ProjectWise, AssetWise, or similar PLM tools. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills for project management, stakeholder interaction, and meeting facilitation. Excellent organization, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, independently and as part of a team. Ability to stay current with new CM technologies, innovations, and trends. Willingness to travel within Metra’s six‑county region. Availability to work flexible hours including early mornings, late afternoons, evenings, or weekends. Preferred Qualifications Experience with PLM systems.
