Job Summary NURSE PRACTITIONER, MS | 36 HOURS – ROTATING SHIFT | BWH ONCOLOGY INFUSION DEPARTMENT The Oncology Infusion Department is seeking a 36‑hour/week Nurse Practitioner to join the Infusion Center team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The APP will work within our adult oncology and medical infusion centers to serve as an infusion first responder, promote infusion service access and efficiency, and may provide urgent care/symptom management in close collaboration with longitudinal medicine providers. The work location includes, but is not limited to, Main Campus Boston, 850 Boylston in Chestnut Hill, and other off‑site locations as determined by clinical staffing needs. Primary Responsibilities Work closely with oncology primary teams to engage in the care of patients with complex diagnoses, serving as a first responder for acute reactions and medical emergencies within the infusion department. Collaborate with longitudinal oncology and medical teams and nursing staff to ensure continuity of care across the care continuum. Provide consultation to nurses and providers to maintain and improve access to infusion services. Write, modify, and addend orders in accordance with current guidelines. Maintain and practice in accordance with practitioner guidelines per state and hospital regulations. Serve on appropriate intra‑ and interdepartmental committees. Collaborate with unit staff, providers, professional development managers, APP leader, and nurse director to meet staff and patient educational needs. Monitor patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care. Facilitate patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration. Support educational efforts to advance knowledge and promote education‑based practice. Evaluate own practice and program effectiveness. Ensure own professional growth and maintain required credentials. Maintain position‑specific standards and educational requirements. Essential Functions Provide direct patient care, counseling, and teaching to a selected patient population. Perform physical examinations and provide preventive health measures appropriate to patients. Order, interpret, and evaluate appropriate lab and diagnostic tests. Arrange appropriate plan of care and follow‑up based on assessment findings. Perform laboratory tests appropriate for the population. Order medications and write prescriptions per organizational and regulatory policies. Record patient care findings in the medical record. Set priorities for efficient management of patient care reflecting cost‑effective resource use. Maintain an interdisciplinary approach to planning and communication with physicians and other health professionals. Incorporate health maintenance, prevention, and promotion into daily practice through patient education. Assist patients and families in utilizing community resources. Assist in developing, implementing, and revising nurse practitioner guidelines and monitoring prescription writing. Evaluate outcomes of patient care and revise care plans as needed. Participate in departmental and organizational quality improvement programs. Utilize quality improvement data and research findings to enhance patient care. Demonstrate appropriate collaborative relationships with other providers. Serve on nursing and hospital committees and communicate information to staff. Participate in setting productivity metrics and cost‑effective management of personnel and supplies. Recommend staffing patterns in collaboration with nursing leadership. Participate in selection and evaluation of new staff. Act as preceptor for nursing students and staff. Participate in orientation of new staff and continuing education programs. Identify learning needs and update clinical knowledge through formal and informal education. Educate lay and professional groups through lectures, papers, and educational materials. Develop annual objectives and review them with nursing leadership and collaborating MDs. Assist in determining and implementing clinical area goals and objectives. Maintain knowledge of legislation affecting health care delivery. Integrate patient population and disease state into programmatic goals. Participate in nursing research, review relevant publications, and engage in grant writing as appropriate. May assume responsibility for directing designated personnel. Qualifications Education & Licensure Master’s, DNP or PhD degree in Nursing required. Current Acute Care or Adult/Geriatric or Family Nurse Practitioner Certification by an accredited APRN certifying body required. Valid prescriptive authority from both MA DPH and Federal DEA required. Current APRN license to practice in Massachusetts required. Experience At least three years recent clinical Nurse Practitioner experience in oncology required. Experience as a responding clinician/APRN to acute adverse reactions required. Prior nursing experience in oncology infusion or medical infusion preferred. Skills & Abilities Expert clinical judgement to function independently. Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills. Ability to work under frequent stress in busy clinical settings. Self‑directed and initiativ­e in addressing responsibilities. Problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills. Professional Standards Nurse practitioner practice conforms to generally accepted standards of care promulgated by the American Nurses Association and other relevant professional organizations. Patient care management is based on current evidence and sound clinical judgment.
