Job Details: Job Location: Snow Hill, MD 21863. Position Type: Per Diem. Salary Range: $150.00 - $155.00 hourly. Job Shift: Day. Position Summary Per Diem Psychiatrist at Worcester County Detention Center. The Psychiatrist will be responsible for delivery of psychotherapy, diagnostic, and therapeutic services in a contract facility. The Psychiatrist will also act as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team and liaison with other medical disciplines. The Psychiatrist diagnoses and treats patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, organizes data concerning patient’s family, medical history, and onset of symptoms from the patient, relatives, and other sources such as nurse and social worker. Examines patient to determine general physical condition following standard medical procedures. Orders laboratory and other diagnostic tests and evaluates data obtained. Determines nature and extent of mental disorder, and formulates treatment program. Treats or directs treatment of patient, utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications. Functional Demands Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Provide 24-hour mental health consultation services to inmate patients in situations requiring immediate crisis intervention. Organizational Expectations Provide a positive and professional representation of CFG Health Systems, LLC. Keep patient information confidential and respect patient’s right to privacy. Be mature, flexible, intellectually alert, able to command the respect and confidence of inmates and staff, and philosophically committed to the objectives of the facility. Promote a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention. Maintain competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice. Adhere to infection control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Attend all CFG Health Systems related staff meetings. Participate in ongoing quality improvement activities. Complete required orientation and trainings directed by facility. Follow facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment. Follow facility and CFG Health Systems Occurrence Protocol. Adhere to PREA and HIPAA regulations. Maintain security clearance for the assigned facility. Identify and utilize appropriate channels of communication with supervising staff. Position Responsibilities Perform and document psychiatric assessments and evaluations on inmate patients referred by the nursing/professional staff of the assigned correctional facility consistent with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care standards of care, American Psychological Association guidelines, NJ 10-A, American Correctional Association standards and Performance-Based National Detention Standards as appropriate. Provide a full range of psychiatric services to assigned patients, including assessment, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and determining the degree of disabilities in patients. Prescribe medication to patients as deemed necessary and conduct medication management. Document all services in the patient’s medical record. Analyze and evaluate patient data and test findings to diagnose nature and extent of mental disorder. Support and provide direction for the psychiatric and behavioral health care delivery system in conjunction with the mental health director, and coordinate with other functions within the institution. Meet regularly with site mental health and medical staff for mental health issues as requested. Prescribe, direct, and administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications as allowed by state regulations and the approved CFG formulary. Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress. Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social and medical history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals. Conduct laboratory or diagnostic tests on patient to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorder. Participate in treatment team activities to include the development and periodic review of patient treatment plans and take necessary steps when a patient refuses treatment. Conduct and review forensic evaluations. Follow and enforce security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications. Contribute to behavioral health program development, policies, and evaluation. Record all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms. Promote a therapeutic environment to ensure inmate patients are treated in a professional, ethical and tactful manner. Confer with patient’s relatives regarding illness and treatments. Collaborate with and supervise Advanced Practice Nurses. Designate the level of care to be performed and the necessary equipment needed. Subject to on-call responsibilities as assigned. All other duties as assigned. Position Requirements Minimum Education Completion of an accredited medical school with an MD or DO degree. Completion of a U.S.-based residency program in a mental health facility. Current, unrestricted license to practice psychiatry in the state where the facility is located (maintain a current copy of the license on file at all times). Forensic Evaluator designation preferred. Minimum Work Experience Experience with mental health delivery systems. Experience in providing services in inpatient and outpatient environments. Experience in providing services in a correctional environment preferred. Required Skills Excellent critical thinking and assessment skills. Ability to make decisions independently. Assertive, empathetic, and able to provide care objectively. Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Basic computer skills. Proficiency in the use of Electronic Medical Records. Ability to command the respect and confidence of inmates and staff, and philosophically committed to the objectives of the facility. Strong knowledge of general medicine and psychotherapy, current developments in the field of psychology, hospital and clinic organization, management, and procedures. Capable of preparing written reports and able to handle legal depositions and court hearings. Other Certifications and Licenses Active Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Unrestricted and valid prescriptive authority with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Controlled Dangerous Substance regulations.
