Automation Engineer I, R&D

Abbott seeks an Automation Engineer I to develop and deploy laboratory automation solutions for diagnostic and sequencing assays in an FDA-regulated environment. Responsibilities
- Develop automated laboratory solutions by programming liquid handling robotics platforms for assay workflows
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate laboratory processes into user needs and software requirements
- Develop robust liquid handler methods for scalable, high-throughput integration with data management systems
- Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis across electrical, mechanical, and software systems
- Write technical documentation including test protocols, test reports, and design control documents for medical devices
Requirements
- B.S. in Life Sciences, Engineering, or related field
- 1+ years experience with automated liquid handlers in regulated environment (CLIA, CAP, ISO)
- High attention to detail and cross-site communication ability
- Technical troubleshooting skills and collaborative problem-solving
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, OneNote, Publisher)
- Familiarity with Next-Generation sequencing or molecular biology workflows
- Solution-oriented mindset with ability to work in fast-paced, changing environment
