Job Title: Production Worker - 1st Shift Job Description

This role is a 1st shift general production position in a clean, fast-paced manufacturing environment. You will support the production of metal exhaust systems by operating and monitoring machinery, performing material and tool changes, inspecting parts, and maintaining quality and safety standards. The shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

Responsibilities

• Perform general production duties throughout the manufacturing process, supporting tube bending, tube assembly, manufacturing, and shipping activities.

• Observe machine operation continuously to detect malfunctions and take appropriate action to maintain safe and efficient performance.

• Position, adjust, and secure work pieces against stops, on arbors, or in chucks, fixtures, or automatic feeding mechanisms manually or using hoists.

• Align layout marks accurately with dies or blades to ensure proper cutting, forming, or bending of materials.

• Set machine stops or guides to specified lengths using scales, rules, or templates to meet job specifications.

• Perform material changes, tool changes, tool setup, and additional maintenance after receiving training and approval.

• Read and interpret job specifications to determine required machine adjustments and material requirements.

• Continuously inspect work pieces for defects and measure parts using rules, templates, gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments to verify accuracy.

• Ensure all products meet established quality criteria, with a goal of zero non-conformances.

• Review and follow the most recent Quality Alerts, Job Instructions, Verification Instructions, Boundary Samples, Cleaning Plans, and other instructional materials.

• Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work pieces using files, hand grinders, wire brushes, or power tools.

• Complete daily reporting paperwork accurately and efficiently to document production and quality activities.

• Maintain housekeeping standards within the work cell, keeping the area clean, organized, and free of hazards.

• Communicate effectively with other operators, maintenance personnel, team leaders, and supervisors to maintain productivity and resolve issues.

• Follow and maintain company safety standards by working safely and using required protective equipment.

• Adhere to all company policies and procedures at all times.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of manufacturing experience in assembly, machine operation, or production.

• Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, and working with fractions.

• Demonstrated solid work history and good tenure in past positions.

• Ownership of steel-toe boots and ability to wear them starting on the first day.

• Ability to stand and remain active for approximately 9 hours per shift, including bending, crouching, and rotating as required by the job.

• Ability to take direction and implement feedback effectively from the first conversation.

• Reliable, work-ready mindset with no upcoming appointments or distractions that would interfere with attendance and performance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in general production, general labor, assembly, machine operation, and packaging.

• Comfort working with automated equipment such as tube benders, welding machines, conveyors, and material handling robots.

• Basic familiarity with production environments that utilize PLC-controlled equipment (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff).

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality standards.

• Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and support continuous improvement.

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including detailed job and quality documentation.

Work Environment

The role is based in a modern manufacturing facility focused on producing metal exhaust systems for automotive applications. Work involves tube bending, tube assembly, manufacturing, and shipping in a fast-paced yet clean and well-organized environment. Some areas of the plant are consistently loud due to automated tube benders, welding machines, conveyors, material handling robots, and other equipment, so employees should be comfortable working around ongoing machine noise. The facility uses advanced technologies, including automated tube benders, welding machines, ABB and other material handling robots, conveyors, and PLC systems from Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Beckhoff for troubleshooting and control. The 1st shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Dress code requires compliance with all PPE and safety requirements: steel-toe shoes must be worn at all times in the plant, and safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection are provided. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troy, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr.
