Job Details Job ID: 5794083 Application Deadline: Jul 06, 2026 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time) Posted: Jun 22, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Aug 26, 2026 Job Description Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School – Teaching Assistant – Academy A – 10 Month Position (185 days) Position Purpose: This position provides support to teachers to ensure a safe and stimulating educational environment for students assigned to Academy A (Engineering, Carpentry, HVAC, Plumbing, Drafting, Electrical shops). The assistant is responsible for maintaining and improving efficiency and effectiveness in all areas under their direction and control and performs other related work as required. Essential Functions Provides support to teachers to ensure a safe and stimulating environment. Assists the teacher in planning and preparation of daily activities. Aids instructional efforts of the teacher, and grades and marks papers. May lead classroom activities. Assists students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning. Supervises students. Prepares instructional materials and supplies for use. Tutors students as directed. Presents subject matter to students under the guidance of a teacher utilizing a variety of methods. Assists students to set and maintain standards of appropriate behavior. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs of the students. Implements the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy. Is available to meet with students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so. Maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning their educational and behavioral progress. Performs other duties as needed. Recommended Minimum Qualification Education, Training, and Experience: High School graduate; knowledge and experience with hand and power tool safety. Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge and use of materials and resources in accordance with the adopted curriculum and consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided. Demonstrates effective classroom management skills and provides for sound and effective techniques of instruction. Ability: Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; ability to work with a diverse community in a meaningful and genuine manner. Culturally proficient leadership skills including visioning, active listening, coaching, facilitation, and use of data for decision making. Demonstrates the ability to adjust presentation of subject content to students’ needs and interests. Effectively utilizes class space to form an environment conducive to learning and uses instructional facilities, equipment and materials. Ability to communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships with all school employees, students, teachers, parents and vendors. Ability to recognize school-wide priorities and work cooperatively to support their accomplishment. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions, occasionally under time pressure. Skills: Demonstrates enthusiasm for learning and interest in students. Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of achievement and classroom behavior. Demonstrates effective knowledge and use of curriculum content (subject-matter and skills) associated with the instructional assignment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population. Willing and able to perform assigned duties in a manner that is sensitive to different personalities, respectful of the role and authority of school leaders, and respectful of community dynamics. Serves as a role model and mentor to young students. Physical Requirements: Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Supervision: Performs routine duties that are clearly defined by protocol and standard operating procedures. Works under the direct supervision of an administrator, teacher or department head, or designee. No supervision given.
