Salary: $15.75 to $17.76 per hour. Job Description General Statement of Job Under general supervision, performs custodial and bus driving duties in assigned school facilities. Custodian Performs routine custodial and light groundskeeping work on school buildings and other facilities. Tasks include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, washing walls and fixtures, monitoring building safety, and maintaining cleanliness. Bus Driver Drives the school bus safely to destinations and returns, follows district procedures, monitors student behavior, and ensures safe transportation. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Job Functions – Custodian Perform minor or routine maintenance on appliances and equipment. Sweep, mop, vacuum, shampoo, strip, wax, and buff floor surfaces. Cleans restroom areas and replenishes paper supplies, hand soap, and hand sanitizer. Clean windows, walls, woodwork, blinds, and light fixtures. Dust and clean desks and other furniture. Empty trash receptacles and deposit recyclables. Inspect heating system and patrol buildings for safety or maintenance issues. Sweep sidewalks, walkways, party grounds, and shovels snow or applies de‑icing compounds. Disinfect high‑touch and widespread areas. Additional Job Functions – Custodian Open or secure buildings at start and end of the day, control lights and HVAC. Arrange furniture for meetings or events. Lifts and moves furniture, equipment, and supplies. Participate in special school events as needed. Perform other related functions as directed by supervisor. Essential Job Functions – Bus Driver Drive the bus safely to destination and return, adhering to traffic rules. Conduct vehicle pre‑checks and record malfunctions. Follow school district regulations for breakdowns and incidents. Keep the bus clean. Picks up and drops off students at designated stops and times. Ensure all students leave at appropriate stops. Monitor student behavior, resolve incidents, and report inappropriate behavior. Ensure the safety of all students during transportation. Minimum Training and Experience High school graduation. Custodian: Two years of custodial experience or equivalent education/training. Bus Driver: Five years of responsible driving, completion of North Carolina DMV Bus Driver Training Course, DOT physical and drug screen clearance, and eligibility to hold a CDL with passenger endorsement. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required Physical: Ability to operate custodial equipment; lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly; perform medium to heavy work. Interpersonal Communication: Speak and/or signal effectively. Language Ability: Read simple forms; prepare timesheets and requisitions. Intelligence: Apply common sense to written or oral instructions. Verbal Aptitude: Record and deliver information; explain procedures. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspect item dimensions. Motor Coordination: Coordinate hands and eyesight for equipment use. Manual Dexterity: Handle various custodial items with care. Interpersonal Temperament: Adapt under minimal stress and resolve conflicts. Other: Valid NC driver’s license and school bus driver license; may drive to different schools as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – Custodian Knowledge of standard custodial methods and materials. Understanding of safety precautions and warning signals. Knowledge of hazardous waste handling procedures. Knowledge of cleaning procedures and materials. Follow written schedules and instructions. Perform physical work and exercise independent judgment.
