Radiology Imaging Manager

Job Purpose & Position Overview The Radiology Imaging Manager is responsible for managing operations, finances, and personnel of the Radiology department. This leadership role oversees departmental operations, staff supervision, imaging quality, regulatory compliance, and performs diagnostic X‑ray and CT procedures as needed to support patient care and coverage. Responsibilities Perform diagnostic X‑ray and computerized tomography procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Use X‑ray technology and techniques to assist in diagnosing patient medical conditions across all age groups. Commit to the mission, vision, core values, and consistently demonstrate these values. Participate in or lead meetings, committees, strategic planning, and lean projects as assigned. Serve as Service Excellence champion, implementing competency and hardwiring service initiatives. Oversee the formulation of departmental goals, objectives, and budgetary procedures to ensure proper operational and capital planning and compliance with fiscal controls. Hire, train, supervise, coach, mentor, retain, and evaluate staff. Keep informed of current issues, new procedures, developments, and innovations in the field. Maintain professional growth through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations. Execute service‑excellence practices to achieve an excellent patient/customer experience. Use quality‑improvement processes and programs to enhance department operations. Oversee the radiation safety program, including shielding, signage, badge monitoring, lead‑apron inspection, and ALARA practices. Coordinate equipment QA/QC, preventive maintenance, CT calibration/physicist scheduling, and timely hazard correction. Validate staff competency for each modality and piece of equipment. Implement contrast safety, extravasation response, allergic‑reaction protocols, emergency preparedness, and adverse‑event review. Own radiology policy and maintain survey readiness. Ensure documentation standards for orders, reports, images, and retention. Prepare staff schedules, including on‑call rotations, and take call when necessary. Maintain service records for all radiology equipment and ensure equipment remains in good working order. Demonstrate knowledge of patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors. Utilize departmental computer systems, file archives, PACS, and other relevant software. Review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies. Coordinate exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care, communicating flexibly with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff. Access and administer drugs and contrast materials per Medical Center procedures. Perform other related projects and duties as assigned. Act as liaison between radiologists, medical providers, technologists, and other stakeholders for communication, quality issues, and discrepancies. Qualifications / Skills Required: Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program. Current Medical Radiographer license. Current ARRT certification in Radiography and CT. BLS certification required. Minimum 3 years radiology experience. Demonstrated competency in X‑ray and CT. Knowledge of radiation safety, contrast administration, PACS/RIS, and hospital imaging workflows. Preferred: 1–3 years supervisory experience. Experience in a rural hospital, CAH, emergency department imaging, or critical access environment. Experience with Meditech, PACS administration, teleradiology, quality improvement, and regulatory survey preparation. Physical Requirements Position requires frequent sitting and computer work with flexibility to vary physical activity. Normal to light office work, including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Regularly required to walk, stand, sit for extended periods and use hands to operate a computer keyboard, phone, and other office equipment. Cognitive Requirements Reading, writing, and basic calculation. Excellent social interaction skills. Reasoning and analysis. Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision. Language Requirements Fluent reading, writing, and speaking in English. Effective professional verbal and written communication skills.
