About the Position

Chesapeake Crab Connection is expanding into live commerce and is looking for one highly energetic, outgoing person to become the on-camera personality behind our Whatnot live shows.

Whatnot is a live-shopping platform that combines entertainment, real-time customer interaction, auctions, giveaways and e-commerce. You will create an engaging live-shopping experience while showcasing and selling Chesapeake Crab Connection products to customers across the country.

This is not a traditional retail sales position or a job where you will sit quietly behind a computer. You will be live on camera for extended periods, talking, selling, interacting with customers and keeping the show entertaining.

Previous Whatnot or seafood experience is helpful but not required. We can teach you the platform and our products. Personality, communication ability and sales instinct are much harder to teach.

Responsibilities

• Host live-selling shows on Whatnot.
• Present and sell Chesapeake Crab Connection products to a live online audience.
• Explain products, pricing, promotions and special offers clearly and accurately.
• Run live auctions, product drops, giveaways and other show promotions.
• Interact continuously with viewers through live chat.
• Answer customer questions in real time.
• Create excitement around products without misleading or pressuring customers.
• Tell stories and explain what makes different products unique.
• Maintain a positive, entertaining and energetic atmosphere throughout each show.
• Develop relationships with repeat viewers and help build a loyal Whatnot following.
• Keep the show moving during slow periods and improvise when necessary.
• Learn our products well enough to discuss them confidently.
• Assist with basic show preparation and organization.
• Review show performance, including sales, viewer engagement and successful products.
• Help test new show formats, promotions, products and selling strategies.
• Provide feedback about customer requests and which products resonate with viewers.
• Take day-to-day ownership of developing the channel, growing its audience and improving its performance.

Relevant Experience

Experience in any of the following areas could be valuable:

• Sales
• Whatnot or other live-selling platforms
• TikTok Live, Instagram Live or other livestreaming
• Bartending or serving
• Retail sales
• Broadcasting or radio
• Theater or performing
• Content creation
• Social media
• Auctioneering
• Customer service
• Brand ambassador work

You do not need previous seafood experience. We will teach you the products.

Compensation

Base pay is guaranteed at $40,000.

You will also earn an uncapped commission equal to 5% of the GMV generated during your shows.

These figures are based on the historical average from our first 24 shows and are provided to demonstrate the position’s potential. Actual GMV and commission earnings will vary based on performance and are not guaranteed.

The approximate guaranteed annual base pay is $40,000, assuming four 10-hour shows per week for 52 weeks. Commission is additional and is not capped.

Schedule

This position follows a four-day workweek with four approximately 10-hour show days each week.

The regular working days are:

• Sunday
• Monday
• Tuesday
• Wednesday

Consistency is important to building a recurring live audience. Applicants must be able to commit reliably to this schedule.

Why This Position Is Different

This position gives you a direct financial stake in the success of the channel. Your hourly base pay is guaranteed, but your total earning potential is not capped.

You will have the opportunity to take day-to-day ownership of building the channel, developing its audience and improving its sales performance. The stronger the channel performs, the more you earn.

We are looking for someone who will think of the show as their own, develop recurring viewers, improve sales, test new ideas and become a recognizable personality associated with Chesapeake Crab Connection.
