Medical Assistant - Certified Medical Assistant
Position Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) supports both clinical and administrative tasks in outpatient clinics. This role assists with patient intake, basic clinical measurements, room preparation, and provider workflow.

Under supervision, the CMA helps with procedures, prepares specimens, and ensures timely and accurate documentation in the patient record.

Responsibilities

• Collect patient history, vitals, and reason for visit; document in the EHR
• Assist with clinical procedures and specimen collection as directed
• Prepare examination rooms and ensure equipment is ready for use
• Administer basic tests (e.g., point-of-care testing) and record results
• Schedule tests and follow-up visits; coordinate referrals
• Assist with patient education and post-visit instructions
• Maintain accurate billing and coding support through documentation
• Ensure infection control and safety standards in the clinic

Qualifications

Education:

Postsecondary medical assistant program or equivalent training

Licensure:

Licensure is not universal; most states require certification or registration as a Medical Assistant

Certifications:

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AAMA or equivalent
• CPR and AED certification

Experience or Skills:

Experience in outpatient clinic workflow; strong patient communication and computer skills

Experience

• Clinical support in ambulatory care settings
• Experience with EHR documentation and basic procedures

Preferred

• Experience with point-of-care testing
• Medical assisting in specialty clinics

Work Environment

Work in outpatient clinics with a multi-disciplinary team, handling competing priorities and a variable patient flow. Typically full-time with some early morning or late afternoon shifts

Documentation is integrated with the EHR, with attention to accurate and timely data entry
