El Paso, TX | Builder Operations | Full-Time Position Summary The Interior Designer owns the interior vision of RISTRA's spec homes, model homes, and custom builds — color palettes, material selections, finishes, and the renderings that let a buyer see the home before it exists. The role sits at the point where design intent becomes a buildable, purchasable, documented selection. Work that looks right on a board but can't be sourced, priced, or installed doesn't count as finished. This role carries both a creative mandate and a documentation obligation. Every selection that reaches the field must be recorded, priced, and signed. Core Responsibilities Design Direction Develop color palettes and material selections for spec homes, model homes, and custom builds. Guide furniture selection, décor, and overall aesthetic direction so each home reads as complete and elevated. Maintain consistency of design standard across concurrent projects. Produce photo-realistic renderings and 3D models to communicate interior concepts before construction using AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, V-Ray, or equivalent. Represent proposed materials and products accurately — renderings are a sales tool and a buyer expectation, not an illustration. Customer Selections Meet with buyers to guide interior design decisions from first appointment through final sign-off. Translate open-ended buyer preferences into a specific, buildable, priced selection set. Present options within the approved product and allowance structure. Change Orders & Documentation Create change orders for interior upgrades, ensuring each is accurately priced, documented, signed, and communicated to the field before work proceeds. Maintain organized records of design decisions, selections, and revisions across every active project. Cross-Department Coordination Work with Purchasing, Design, Construction, and Color Selections to confirm that selections are available, buildable, and reflected correctly in project documentation. Surface lead-time and availability risk before it reaches the schedule. Product & Trend Development Research and introduce new materials, finishes, and products into the selections process. Evaluate candidates for cost, availability, durability, and installability before proposing them. Decision Authority Approves without escalation: selections within approved product lines and allowance structure, rendering and presentation direction, and change orders within determined budget thresholds. Escalates to leadership: selections outside approved allowances or product lines, new vendor or product introductions, change orders if above budget thresholds, and any buyer request that affects schedule, structure, or trade scope. Does not proceed on: any interior scope change reaching the field without a signed, priced change order. Qualifications Required: 5+ years of direct interior design experience. Proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, V-Ray, or similar). Strong command of color theory, materials, and finishes as they apply to residential construction. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to manage multiple spec, model, and custom projects simultaneously. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Interior Design — substantial direct experience may substitute. Experience creating change orders and working cross-departmentally with Purchasing and Design. Bilingual English/Spanish. A natural eye for color and composition paired with the technical skill to render it convincingly. Genuine appetite for new materials and products.
