About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, NRP Preferred Must-Have: Recent Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience is required. Driver's license is required. Artificial nails are prohibited. Pass/Fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% required to pass. Description: Fast-paced and high-acuity environment. Department serves a Level I trauma, pediatric certified, and comprehensive stroke center. Unit includes 20 beds, 5 trauma bays, 10 observation beds, and hallway beds. Fast track area has 6 beds, with a separate triage area containing 3 beds. Security is present in-house 24/7 in the emergency department. Nurse-patient ratios are 1:4 in zones, 1:6 in fast track, 1:5 in observation, and 1:1 in ICU/Trauma. Common patient diagnoses include trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and strokes. All common drips seen in Level I trauma emergency departments are utilized. Both emergency department physicians and mid-level staff are present and available. A charge nurse is assigned for each shift. Nurse aids, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters are available on each shift with set ratios. Telemetry and monitor techs are part of the team, and RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips. Various shift times are available, with a leadership team responsible for scheduling. Weekend and holiday requirements vary based on departmental needs. Staff may float to the observation unit and freestanding emergency department at least once a week. The unit is characterized by a need for a high level of acuity and responsiveness. Requests for time off must be submitted upfront, with limited additional requests allowed. Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts during the assignment. Charting is done using an electronic health record system.
