Inpatient Registered Nurse - Staffing & Float Days

Responsibilities Identify, assess and diagnose patient problems through assessment and interaction. Plan and implement interventions to solve patient care problems. Formulate care plans and document the nursing process in the patient’s record. Evaluate patient response to interventions and modify the plan of care as needed. Develop and participate in educating patients, families or significant others about post‑discharge care programs. Initiate patient care meetings with the health care team to revise the plan of care as the patient’s condition warrants. Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment. Provide guidance and direction to members of the health care team to ensure quality patient care. Keep current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs. Orient and educate new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures. Provide and oversee direct patient care in accordance with established nursing protocol and physicians’ orders. Utilize knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precaution to initiate appropriate interventions in crisis situations. Participate in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care. Work rotating schedules, including variable hours, weekends, nights, and holidays to meet staffing demands of a 24/7 health system. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions as outlined above. Ability to provide care to the population served. Demonstrated leadership, human relations, and effective communication skills. Availability to work variable and rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in a 24/7 patient care environment. Display mental and emotional stamina in situations dealing with death, multiple patients, family members, etc. Function calmly and competently in high‑stress situations. Deal with hazards involved in assessing and providing care to patients. Knowledge of life‑span growth and development principles, and ability to assess patient status and provide care per department policies and procedures. Licenses Required Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system (obtained within 30 days of hire). Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact. Preferred Certifications Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within one year of hire, if required. Working Conditions and Physical Demands This position involves intensive work that may require lifting up to 100 pounds and lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects such as medical equipment or patients. Exposure to infectious diseases and working around prisoners or behavioral health patients may occur.
