Controller - Annapolis, MD Our client, a mission‑driven nonprofit organization based in Annapolis, MD, is seeking an experienced Controller to join their leadership team. Why This Controller Role Is a Great Opportunity * Make a meaningful impact at a well‑established nonprofit * Join a collaborative, values‑driven team committed to service and fiscal responsibility * Work closely with leadership on financial strategy, budget planning, and organizational performance * Excellent work‑life balance and a supportive professional environment Job Duties of the Controller: * Oversee all day‑to‑day accounting operations including general ledger, month‑end close, account reconciliations, cash management, and financial controls. * Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal leadership and the Board of Directors. * Manage the annual budgeting process, monitor budget‑to‑actual performance, and support program managers with financial insight. * Supervise and mentor small accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient team environment. * Coordinate annual external audits, tax filings, and grant‑related financial reporting. * Evaluate current accounting processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and internal controls. * Maintain oversight of payroll, benefits‑related financial reporting, and expense management. * Manage banking relationships, investment reporting, and cash‑flow forecasting. * Provide financial analysis and data needed for strategic decision‑making, Board presentations, and long‑term planning. Qualifications for the Controller: * Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA a plus * 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a non profit organization * Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, and grant reporting * Supervisory experience with the ability to lead, support, and develop staff * Proficiency with accounting software, such as SAP or Oracle * Advanced Excel skills * Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills * High level of integrity, discretion, and commitment to the organization's mission Salary: $140,000-$165,000 Schedule: 100% on site in Annapolis, MD to start
