Registered Nurse Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:


The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) provides acute care nursing for laboring and antepartum patients in a short-term acute care setting. This role involves managing high-risk pregnancies, including pre-eclampsia, diabetes, multiples, and VBAC/TOLAC cases, as well as active management of labor and maternal emergencies. The L&D RN collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective patient care, maintaining patient ratios of 1:2 in labor and 1:3 in antepartum. At least 2 years of nursing experience is required, with flexibility for first-time travelers.

Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to laboring and antepartum patients, including high-risk cases.
• Manage inductions, augmentations, and active labor management.
• Monitor and respond to maternal emergencies promptly and effectively.
• Perform assessments and documentation using the Epic charting system.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Float between units as required to support staffing needs.
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:2 in labor and 1:3 in antepartum settings.
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures within a Level II Trauma and Pediatric Trauma Center.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in labor and delivery.
• Proficiency in acute care nursing for high-risk labor and antepartum patients.
• Experience with pre-eclampsia, diabetes, multiples, VBAC/TOLAC, and maternal emergencies.
• Ability to manage inductions and augmentations effectively.
• Familiarity with Epic electronic medical records system.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in a teaching hospital or Level II Trauma Center environment.
• Previous travel nursing experience.
• Certification in maternal-fetal nursing or related specialty certifications.

Special Considerations:

• Floating between units is required to meet patient care demands.
• Some weekend shifts are required; no on-call duties.
• Shifts are 48 hours in duration as approved by the facility.
• Work environment includes a Level II Trauma Center and Pediatric Trauma Center.
• Scrub color is flexible; no specific color mandated for L&D RNs.
• Parking is provided at no cost.

Scheduling:

• Shifts are 48 hours long, scheduled as per facility requirements.
• Weekend shifts are part of the schedule; block scheduling is not required.
• Shift assignments may vary due to floating responsibilities.
