Head Varsity Boys & Girls Tennis Coach

Pre-Season Responsibilities Send a “Welcome to the Team” email with regards to the practice schedule, game schedule, season expectations, and a brief introduction of yourself and your coaching staff. Hold tryouts, if necessary, to determine Varsity, JV, and F/S teams. Communicate with parents/players about decisions via email, letter, or in person. Have a pre‑season meeting with the Director of Athletics to discuss season goals, expectations, coaches handbook, and all logistics relating to the program. Do an inventory of all equipment relating to the program. Coaching Responsibilities Provide instruction and training in the fundamentals of the sport. Be capable of coaching all phases of the sport. Plan and execute all team practices, carrying practice plans. Supervise the team during practice, contests, travel, and all other team-related activities. Maintain facilities and team equipment to appropriate standards. For gym sports, maintain gym floor and all necessary gym equipment (dry mop daily, wet mop twice a week). Promote sportsmanship, fair play, and a Christ-centered environment. Develop, oversee, and monitor all out-of-season workouts, summer programs, and summer camps. Provide basic medical treatment for non‑life‑threatening injuries. Administrative Responsibilities Send regular emails (suggestion: weekly) to families of team members during the season. CC Director of Athletics and immediate supervisor to all email communications with the team. Reply to all emails and texts in a timely manner (24 hours is the Golden Rule). Understand and abide by National, State, and League rules pertaining to the sport being coached, including eligibility rules of athletes. Report game scores to the Athletic Director and appropriate media outlets before 10 pm on the night of the contest. (Daily Pilot, OC Varsity, OC Prep Zone, etc.) Complete administrative tasks given by Athletics Department Administrators relating to your athletic program. Log on and keep Maxpreps up‑to‑date with all team information (season schedule, roster, stats, scores). Utilize Athletics Department‑provided sports technology (Hudl, Insta‑Stat, iPad, etc.) to further advance and prepare your program for competition. Manage and oversee coaching staff for all levels of the program if applicable (Varsity, JV, and F/S). Have weekly or bi‑weekly check‑ins with lower‑level coaches. Evaluate at least one practice each month for each program (JV–F/S); share evaluations with the Director of Athletics during a mid‑season review. Attend at least two lower‑level home games during the season. For volleyball, secure an official “Bookkeeper, Libero Tracker, and Scoreboard Operator” for all home volleyball games at all levels. For basketball, secure an official bookkeeper and official stat keeper. Work with the Athletics Department to foster relationships with college coaches for recruiting purposes for Pacifica Christian student‑athletes. Post-Season Responsibilities Collect all equipment, medkits, keys, and uniforms and turn them into the Athletic Department for inventory. Meet with the Athletic Director for post‑season debrief and evaluation (scheduled within two weeks of the last game). Plan and attend post‑season team parties. Attend post‑season league meetings. Prepare and distribute off‑season training opportunities, workouts, and expectations to both players and parents. Critical Performance Competencies Positively support the school’s policies and practices and work collaboratively in a professional organization. Communicate truthfully, positively, and purposefully with others. Communicate in a timely manner (24 hours) with parents, administrators, and players. Able to use strong written and oral communication skills to transfer thoughts and express ideas. Flexible and adaptable in dealing with new, different, or changing requirements/situations. Maintain confidentiality and security of information. Hold self and others accountable to the morals and principles of Pacifica Christian High School. Mentor, guide, and develop the Christian character of student‑athletes. Effective in handling multiple concurrent tasks. Adhere to biblical standards in all areas of conduct. Qualifications Previous coaching experience. Adequate knowledge and understanding of the sport. Meet coaching certification standards as set forth by Pacifica and CIF-SS. Requires standing for long periods of time. Requires lifting and moving items upwards of 50 pounds. Must be CPR/First Aid certified. Must be 21 years or older. Must have a valid CA driver’s license.
