Technical Specialist – Mainframe
We are seeking a Technical Specialist – Mainframe to serve as a subject matter expert responsible for supporting, optimizing, and managing enterprise mainframe environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in z/OS, CICS, DB2, IMS, JCL, and Endevor, and related middleware technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a mainframe technical expert supporting enterprise systems built on z/OS and ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of critical applications.
- Provide configuration management and release management support using Endevor, including version control, deployment coordination, and promotion strategies across environments.
- Perform CICS administration, troubleshooting, and debugging, working closely with application developers and infrastructure teams to resolve system and application issues.
- Manage and support DB2 databases, including performance tuning, optimization, and usage of DB2 utilities and tools.
- Analyze and optimize complex SQL queries, providing recommendations to improve performance, efficiency, and cost savings.
- Support and maintain IMS, JCL batch processing, and related mainframe job streams.
- Work with middleware and messaging systems such as IBM MQ to ensure seamless application integration and data flow.
- Collaborate with development, testing, and infrastructure teams to ensure smooth releases and system stability.
- Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements across mainframe applications and database layers.
- Ensure adherence to enterprise standards, change management processes, and operational best practices.
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with z/OS operating system and its architecture
- Hands-on expertise in CICS, DB2, IMS, JCL
- Strong knowledge of SQL programming and optimization techniques
- Experience with Endevor (configuration/release management tool)
- Familiarity with IBM MQ / middleware technologies
- Ability to troubleshoot complex mainframe application and system issues
- Strong analytical skills for performance tuning and cost optimization
Required Skills
- Knowledge of Z/OS operating system and its interrelationships and functionality
- Experience providing configuration management / release management support and guidance for Endevor software
- Knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language) programming language and techniques
- Knowledge of tools and utilities to support DB2
- Ability to evaluate complex SQL queries
