Job Description
This role focuses on painting and preparing industrial trucks and related parts within a high-volume manufacturing environment. The position offers a structured progression through multiple skill levels, where you apply automotive and industrial painting techniques, surface preparation, and coating application to meet strict quality standards. You will work with various paint systems, equipment, and materials to deliver durable, high-quality finishes on large industrial vehicles and components.
Responsibilities

• Clean and inspect parts prior to painting to ensure proper surface condition and adhesion.
• Prepare products for final paint, including sanding, masking, and other surface preparation activities.
• Mix coatings with reducer and catalyst at correct ratios using color mixture equipment and following specifications.
• Spray primers and sealers using an air paint system to achieve proper coverage and adhesion.
• Apply color and clear coatings with spray equipment to meet coverage, gloss, and finish standards.
• Identify and correct errors in paint application, such as runs, sags, or improper coverage.
• Maintain spray equipment to meet operational standards, including cleaning and routine upkeep (excluding mechanical repair).
• Maintain paint booth cleanliness, perform filter changes, and accurately complete log sheets.
• Handle hazardous waste properly by placing materials in designated containers and following safety procedures.
• Understand and follow spill response procedures and the facility evacuation plan.
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of debris to support safety and efficiency.
• Use dual action sanders, grinders, and miscellaneous hand tools for surface preparation and finishing.
• Operate paint guns, including disassembly and reassembly for cleaning and maintenance to ensure optimal performance.
• Follow OSHA and EPA standards related to industrial painting, hazardous materials, and workplace safety.
• Communicate professionally with team members and supervisors and follow written and verbal directions.
• Work collaboratively in a team environment, supporting coworkers to meet production and quality goals.
• Participate in interviews or skill assessments related to industrial painting and take part in shop tours as needed for onboarding.

Essential Skills

• Experience in industrial or automotive painting, including paint prep; level 1 typically requires around 1 year of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience painting within manufacturing, auto body, or similar environments (such as automotive or airplane painting).
• Ability to run dual action sanders, grinders, and miscellaneous hand tools safely and effectively.
• Full knowledge of quality requirements needed to produce acceptable finish paint on industrial vehicles and parts.
• Ability to mix primers and other paint products according to specifications or willingness to learn these procedures.
• Knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards applicable to industrial painting and hazardous material handling.
• Knowledge of operation of paint guns, including disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and maintaining optimal performance.
• Ability to communicate professionally and follow written and verbal directions.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
• Capability to perform frequent bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.
• Ability to regularly lift and move up to 40 pounds without assistance.
• Ability to work with arms above the head and from ladders or scaffolding for extended periods.
• Ability to operate and understand the operation of all protective safety equipment in the area.
• Ability to work in non-temperature-controlled environments, including temperatures above 95 degrees.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Preferred 1-year experience in automotive paint preparation.
• Preferred high school diploma or GED.
• Experience with industrial painting processes, including spray gun operation and paint booth work.
• Background in auto body painting, airplane painting, or paint manufacturing is beneficial.
• Experience with sanding, sandblasting, powder coating, and general coating applications.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints related to parts and paint specifications.
• General labor experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Familiarity with paint sprayers, spray guns, and paint booth operations.
• Ability to learn and adhere to standard operating procedures for paint mixing and application.
• Comfort working in a structured skill-level system (entry, advanced, master) with opportunities to progress.

Work Environment
This position is based in a busy manufacturing environment with approximately 160 hourly employees working on the floor at one time. The facility has expanded multiple times and is larger on the inside than it appears from the outside, providing ample space for production and paint operations. Team sizes typically range from 6 to 15 people, creating a collaborative, shop-floor atmosphere. The schedule currently runs from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with mandatory Fridays for the foreseeable future to meet production demands and staffing needs. The role involves frequent bending, stooping, squatting, and climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding, as well as working with arms above the head and from elevated positions. You must be able to regularly lift and move 40 pounds without assistance and operate all required protective safety equipment. Work areas are not temperature-controlled, and you should be comfortable working in temperatures exceeding 95 degrees. Painting is performed in and around paint booths using spray equipment, hand tools, sanders, grinders, and other industrial tools, with strict adherence to safety, cleanliness, and hazardous waste handling procedures.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $49920.00 - $62400.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
