Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and maintaining accurate financial records and reports for assigned reporting entities. This role supports financial reporting, audit activities, grant compliance, account reconciliations, and month-end close while partnering with internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence.

This is a hybrid position based in Denver, CO , with one day per week in the office .

Pay: $34.21 per hour ($71,157 annually, based on a 40-hour workweek).

Essential Responsibilities

• Review and approve coding for invoices, checks, wire transfers, and incoming deposits, collaborating with regional teams to resolve coding discrepancies.
• Review grants and awards to determine federal reporting applicability and coordinate with the Grant Project Coordinator regarding compliance requirements.
• Prepare, review, and reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank accounts, intercompany balances, and subsidiary ledgers.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies between accounts payable, accounts receivable, and the general ledger.
• Prepare accurate financial statements, supporting schedules, management reports, and narrative analyses within established reporting deadlines.
• Compile accounting reports and documentation required by external agencies and regulatory organizations.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes by ensuring financial records are complete and accurate.
• Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and respond to auditor requests during interim and annual audits.
• Lead interim audit testing activities, including compliance testing.
• Identify accounting discrepancies, process improvements, and emerging trends, partnering with internal stakeholders to implement effective solutions.
• Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and Geographic Business Center schedules.
• Respond promptly and professionally to financial inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of assigned portfolios, applicable accounting standards, and organizational policies.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Three (3) years of accounting experience in public accounting or industry accounting.
• Experience preparing financial statements and account reconciliations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• Property or real estate accounting experience.
• Experience performing high-volume bank reconciliations.
• Experience working with nonprofit organizations or affordable housing is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Knowledge of cost accounting, real estate accounting, and cash and tax accounting methods.
• Ability to interpret loan documents, partnership agreements, regulatory agreements, and other financial documents, and understand their impact on financial reporting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to identify process improvements and implement practical solutions.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
