Assistant Program Director

Salary: $28 - $35/hr Position Summary: Beacon Programs are school-based community centers in NYC offering year-round educational, recreational, and cultural activities for children, youth, and adults on evenings and weekends. The Assistant Program Director is a part-time position responsible for assisting with the daily management and supervision of the Beacon Program involving participants in the Community School as well as community partnerships with co-locators. He/She will support the Program Director in completing paperwork requirements of funders, including recruitment and data tracking. Children’s Aid Mission: To help children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive support to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. Children’s Aid annually serves children and their families at over 40 sites in New York, as well as through three national program models. Children’s Aid is concentrating its efforts on creating cradle-through-college pathways in high-need neighborhoods, with a focus on children’s health, family stability, education, and social and emotional development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Assist in daily administration of the day-to-day functioning of the Beacon Programs including weekday, evenings and weekend.
• Support Group Leaders in implementing all elements of the Beacon program: behavior management, activity schedule and special activities.
• Data entry and analysis of all program operations; update Master Lists, collect applications.
• Create structures and processes for effective program operations.
• Work closely with the Beacon Director to develop program based on goals and needs of Community School and surrounding community, as well as partner schools that feed into program.
• Establish program goals and outcome measures to determine the success of each program component.
• Model appropriate child, youth and adult development practices, and handle behavior concerns as needed.
• Directly supervise the Beacon Program staff, including facilitators and specialists.
• Support recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of all additional staff employed through the Beacon program.
• Establish and maintain strategic partnerships between Beacon program and relevant community groups, school administrators, public officials, funders, parents and other critical stakeholders and represent organization to community boards, other institutions, agencies, and organizations.
• Must be knowledgeable on all curricula implemented in afterschool.
• Assist with on-going assessment of program participants and provide appropriate services.
• Address and/or appropriately refer behavioral issues with participants.
• Assist with maintaining and ensuring that all administrative details of the program are implemented: records maintenance, appropriate documentation, Group Leader attendance sheets, updating calendars and schedules, daily messages, note taking of staff meetings, permission slips, etc.
• Assist in the recruiting and retention of participants of the Beacon Program
• Assist with quality control: observes and shares observations regarding program components on a regular basis.
• Assist with the planning and implementation of afterschool, Holiday Program, evening and weekend, pantry services and Summer Camp.
• Help coordinate special events: shows, dinners, exhibitions, etc.
• Attend trainings as requested by the Program Director.
• Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: • Working towards a Bachelor’s degree or Associates Degree
• At least 2 years of experience in administration.
• Experience working with children and families.
