DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES The Department of Biological Sciences offers B.S., B.A., and MS degree programs as well as a Biotechnology Certificate program. The department has approximately 800 undergraduate majors, 50 MS students, 17 tenure‑track faculty and 7 staff. Teaching resources include eleven laboratory classrooms, greenhouse facilities, and a natural history collections room. POSITION AVAILABLE One or more temporary, part‑time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026, and/or Spring Semester 2027. THE DEPARTMENT The B.S. in Biological Sciences includes a rigorous core sequence in biological sciences, including courses in chemistry, physics, selected mathematics and statistics courses. Within the B.S. degree, students can select a concentration in Physiology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biomedical Lab Sciences, and Forensic Science. Additionally, the department offers a B.A. in Biological Sciences with concentration in Biology Education designed to prepare students for careers in secondary science education. DUTIES OF THE POSITION Part‑time lecturer positions teaching major and non‑major courses in Biology including Introductory Biology, Genetics, Developmental Genetics, Hematology, Microbiology and Human Physiology and Anatomy. Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. RANK AND SALARY Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Appointment is subject to budgetary authorization. The salary schedule information is based on ranges; the anticipated hiring range is near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. DATE OF APPOINTMENT Fall Semester begins August17,2026; Spring Semester begins January19,2027. QUALIFICATIONS A Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences or a related field is required. For certain non‑major courses, the Ph.D. requirement may be waived, but an M.S. degree is required. APPLICATION DEADLINE Positions open until filled.
