Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Analysis Temporary Faculty Pool Working in small classes and our state-of-the-art lab, students explore humankind's ever-changing relationship to the environment. Then, students use what they know out in the field, undertaking important research topics such as global warming, deforestation, ethnic conflict, urban planning, and much more. Preference is given to candidates who are ABD or have a completed Ph.D. and who have relevant training and teaching experience for the course(s) or area of specialization. GSP 101 Lab Instructor Minimum Qualifications Degree: Earned Bachelor’s degree and graduate‑level work in a related area OR earned Bachelor’s degree and advanced‑level work in a related area. Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching this subject, including ability to teach ArcGIS, use of differential GPS, fundamentals of Remote Sensing and Cartographic Design. Preferred: Evidence of scholarly preparation specific to the course, including coursework taken, scholarship (written or published work, or presentations), consulting, or other professional experience. GSP 316, 416 & 426 Minimum Qualifications Degree: Earned master’s degree in an appropriate field, or compensating experience. Experience: Demonstrated experience in teaching this subject or closely related subjects, including ability to teach ArcView and use of differential GPS. Preferred: Evidence of scholarly preparation specific to the course, including coursework taken, scholarship (written or published work, or presentations), consulting, travel or other professional experience. GSP 316 Lab Instructor Minimum Qualifications Degree: Earned Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field. Experience: Evidence of familiarity with current mapping sciences techniques. Position Details Position Type: Lecturer Availability: As needed First Review Date: Applications received by April 1st annually are given first consideration. Early response is encouraged. Salary: Dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary schedule for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is as follows: Lecturer A $5,507 – $6,677 Lecturer B $6,221 – $13,224 Lecturer C $6,825 – $14,523 Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range. The full‑time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. Cal Poly Humboldt sits on the traditional homelands of the Wiyot people in what is currently called Arcata, CA. The Wiyot people call the area Goudi'ni (over in the woods). The campus is in close proximity to several thriving Native American tribes and communities. Humboldt has the largest percentage of Native American students in the CSU system and has over 30 Native American faculty and staff, many from local area California Indian tribes. Cal Poly Humboldt is home to leading Native American programs including the Indian Tribal Education and Personnel Program (ITEPP) and the Indian Natural Resource, Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP). There are also many opportunities to conduct research, teaching and community work on Native American history and cultures, with resources in Special Collections at the Cal Poly Humboldt library. The Humboldt Room in the Library has fantastic resources for tribally focused archive materials from the region.
