Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights (19:30–07:30) | Every other weekend required (Saturday & Sunday) | Holiday rotation required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a 63-bed surgical acute unit, managing post-operative surgical patients, trauma, and overflow medical patients
• Perform wound care and dressing changes, IV therapy, pain management, and management of drains, nasogastric tubes, central lines, and TPN
• Manage patient care with nurse-to-patient ratios of 5–6 patients per RN on nights (ratios may increase to 1:7 if operationally necessary)
• Manage inhalers and place patients on CPAP as needed; collaborate with Respiratory Therapy for nebulizer treatments
• Collaborate with PCTs, charge nurses, and house supervisors to ensure safe, team-based patient care across all shifts
• Float to units with equivalent level of care as needed; travelers are first to float

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
• BLS certification required
• Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy; a negative drug screen for all panels is required
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible at the standard contract rate

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in post-operative patient care and surgical acute settings
• Familiarity with telemetry monitoring (Philips); bedside RNs are not required to read strips independently
• Experience with central lines, TPN, and heparin drip management
• Strong critical thinking skills, effective communication, and demonstrated ability to work as part of a collaborative team
