Markel is seeking a Training & Development Manager to join the Change Management Office (CMO) and lead learning and enablement efforts that support enterprise transformation initiatives. This role is responsible for developing learning strategies, designing and delivering training solutions, and ensuring employees successfully adopt new processes, technologies, tools, and ways of working.

The Training & Development Manager serves as a strategic partner to business leaders, project teams, and Change Managers, helping translate organizational change into effective learning experiences that drive readiness, adoption, and business results. This individual will lead learning efforts across a portfolio of business and technology initiatives and play a key role in supporting organizational transformation.

Key Responsibilities

Learning Strategy & Consulting

• Lead learning and enablement strategies for enterprise transformation initiatives.
• Partner with business leaders, project teams, and Change Managers to identify knowledge gaps, performance needs, and adoption risks.
• Conduct learning needs assessments and define role-based learning requirements.
• Develop learning strategies that align with business objectives, project goals, and change outcomes.
• Serve as a trusted advisor on learning, employee development, and enablement best practices.
• Recommend learning solutions that improve employee performance, proficiency, and adoption.

Instructional Design & Content Development

• Design and develop curricula, learning paths, eLearning modules, instructor-led training materials, videos, job aids, quick reference guides, and performance support resources.
• Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to create engaging and effective learning experiences.
• Translate complex business processes, technology solutions, and organizational changes into clear, actionable learning content.
• Leverage learning technologies and AI-enabled tools to improve content quality, speed, and scalability.
• Establish and maintain training standards, templates, and reusable learning assets.

Training Delivery & Facilitation

• Deliver instructor-led, virtual, hybrid, and train-the-trainer learning programs.
• Facilitate workshops, office hours, and learner support sessions.
• Partner with subject matter experts and business stakeholders to validate learning content and objectives.
• Support leader and manager enablement activities that reinforce organizational change and adoption.
• Manage learner participation, completion tracking, and training reporting.

Change Enablement & Adoption

• Support organizational readiness efforts through learning, reinforcement, and knowledge transfer activities.
• Measure training effectiveness, learner proficiency, and adoption outcomes using assessments, surveys, and performance metrics.
• Develop reinforcement strategies that sustain knowledge retention and behavior change following implementation.
• Identify and mitigate learning-related risks and adoption barriers.
• Partner with Change Managers to support readiness assessments, adoption measurement, and continuous improvement activities.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

• Partner with Change Management, Operations, Product, Technology, and Business teams to support enterprise initiatives.
• Ensure learning strategies are integrated into project, implementation, and adoption plans.
• Support enterprise transformation initiatives, system implementations, process improvements, AI adoption efforts, and organizational change programs.
• Stay current on learning technologies, instructional design trends, AI-enabled learning tools, and change management best practices.
• Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned, feedback analysis, and data-driven enhancements to learning programs.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years of experience in Training, Learning & Development, Instructional Design, Change Management, Organizational Effectiveness, or a related field.
• Proven experience leading learning and enablement efforts for large-scale business, process, technology, or organizational transformation initiatives.
• Strong instructional design expertise, including curriculum development, eLearning, job aids, and performance support resources.
• Strong facilitation, presentation, consulting, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience developing learning strategies that drive business outcomes and employee adoption.
• Experience consulting with leaders and stakeholders to identify performance improvement opportunities.
• Experience partnering with cross-functional business and technology teams.
• Ability to manage multiple initiatives and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Copilot.
• Insurance industry experience preferred.

Preferred Skills

• Experience supporting enterprise change management and business transformation initiatives.
• Experience establishing learning governance, standards, and measurement practices.
• Experience developing adoption, readiness, and learning effectiveness metrics.
• Experience leveraging AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar technologies to accelerate content development and learning delivery.
• Ability to simplify complex business and technology concepts into practical, learner-focused learning experiences.
• Strong consulting, relationship management, and influencing skills.

Familiarity with Prosci, ADKAR, or other change management methodologies preferred.

Pay information:

The salary range for this position is $82,500 - $171,900. The posted salary range reflects the lowest and highest base salary applicable to this role across our U.S. locations. Individual offers are determined based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and other job-related factors. As a result, the salary offered for a specific location will fall within a narrower range than the overall range displayed in this posting. This position may also be eligible to participate in the Company's annual incentive plan.
