Contracts Specialist

Sponsored Projects Services (SPS) within the Office of Research, Innovation and Economic Development at the State University of New York at Buffalo is seeking a Contracts Specialist . The role is entry level, responsible for administering, drafting, reviewing and negotiating simple agreements supporting sponsored research activity at the University at Buffalo. The Contracts Specialist ensures compliance with institutional policies, Research Foundation guidelines and applicable laws while supporting research contract administration. Responsibilities Administer and draft contracts such as sponsored research agreements, NDAs and MTAs. Ensure compliance with University, Research Foundation, sponsor policies and legal requirements. Collaborate with faculty, department administrators, legal counsel and external sponsors to gather information and facilitate contract execution. Assess risk and recommend mitigation or resolution strategies for contracts. Support timely processing and management of contracts supporting sponsored research initiatives. Maintain accurate records of all contracts and related documentation ensuring proper approval processes. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple contracts and projects simultaneously. Basic familiarity with legal principles and contract language, with willingness to learn institutional and sponsor policies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and professional interaction with stakeholders. Team collaboration and contribution to office efficiency. Preferred Qualifications Experience in contract administration, especially within higher education or research environments.
