Role Description The Junior Sous Chef is a full-time, on-site role based in Baltimore, MD, supporting the culinary team for events and restaurant service. This role assists in menu preparation, cooking, and plating for a variety of functions, ensuring consistent quality and presentation standards. The Junior Sous Chef helps oversee kitchen stations, organizes prep work, and supports inventory management and food storage practices. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, complying with health and safety regulations, and coordinating with chefs, servers, and event staff to meet service timelines. The role also contributes to new menu ideas and provides guidance to line cooks and prep staff during busy service periods. Qualifications Strong foundational culinary skills, including knife work, cooking techniques, and food preparation for banquets and à la carte service. Experience in kitchen organization, including station setup, prep scheduling, and coordination with front-of-house teams. Knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and proper storage practices in a high-volume environment. Ability to work efficiently under pressure, manage multiple tasks during peak service, and maintain attention to detail. Collaborative communication skills and a positive, professional approach to working with diverse team members. Prior experience in hotel, event catering, or restaurant kitchens; experience with upscale or artisan menus is an advantage. Formal culinary training or a culinary diploma/certificate is preferred but not required with equivalent experience.
