Heavy-Duty Fleet Diesel Technician
Location: Panama City, FL
A day in the shopYou roll in, scan the work board, and tackle the most urgent repairs first to keep the fleet moving. Some days it’s diagnosing an aftertreatment fault; other days it’s tracking down a stubborn electrical issue or chasing a hydraulic leak. You plan preventative maintenance, organize tools and parts, coordinate workflow, and make sure every repair meets safety standards. You document what you did, why you did it, and when the next service is due—because uptime matters.
What you’ll handle- Full-spectrum diagnostics, repair, and maintenance on diesel-powered fleet trucks
- Emissions systems work: EGR, DEF, and aftertreatment troubleshooting and repair
- Preventative maintenance scheduling to maximize reliability
- Mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic fault diagnosis and efficient repair completion
- Accurate service records and adherence to safety procedures
- Shop operations: workflow management, tool organization, and general upkeep
- Prioritization of critical repairs to reduce downtime and support uptime goals
- Clear communication with management on truck condition, repair plans, and timelines
- Consistent compliance with company safety policies and industry best practices
Familiarity with refuse/garbage trucks or other heavy-duty fleet vehicles is a strong plus, though not required.
What you bring- 3+ years of hands-on diesel mechanic experience (required)
- Certification as a diesel technician or equivalent experience (preferred)
- Deep understanding of diesel engines, EGR/DEF systems, and heavy-truck components
- Ability to work independently and oversee daily shop responsibilities
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Reliability and willingness to take on on-call needs as required
- $25–$30 per hour, based on experience
