Graduate Assistant for Cairn's Student Life Department/University Ministry Center

The Graduate Assistant for Cairn's Student Life department/University Ministry Center reports directly to the Dean of Students and is primarily responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the University's Ministry Credit Program. The GA is expected to be student-centered, administratively sound, task-oriented, relationship oriented, able to problem solve, work autonomously as well as with a team, and be proficient with technology. Strong customer service skills with an appreciation for diversity and the ability to work successfully with a variety of constituents are also highly desired.

Position Responsibilities:

• Work with the Dean of Students to create an annual, robust chapel program.
• Oversee the process and implementation of student chapel attendance tracking.
• Work with the Technology Services department to implement and evaluate the attendance tracking system.
• Keep students updated concerning chapel absences; issue chapel attendance fines to students who have exceeded the maximum allowable chapel absences.
• Coordinate worship teams, song databases, CCLI numbers, and Technology Services elements for each chapel service.
• Make facility reservations in the Event Management System and coordinate event-related facility needs with Campus Services, and other departments as needed. This applies to both corporate chapel events as well as academic and class chapels.
• Working with the Music Department and Admissions, establish and maintain a list of available worship leaders and teams (including recent and local alumni) ensuring the quality of the team's ability to play and lead.
• Contact chapel speakers, worship leaders, and student leaders to secure, schedule, and inform those selected as participants for each chapel service.
• Communicate with speakers and Business Services to ensure timely payment of any honorarium and/or travel expense reimbursements.
• Work with Communications and Marketing to create and communicate the chapel schedule.
• Coordinate and manage chapel announcements.
• Assist in the management of student workers in the UMC, whose duties support media management, database administration, and event planning.

Qualities & Qualifications:

• Excellent administrative and computer skills, including Excel and Microsoft Office; Microsoft Access knowledge a plus.
• Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities.
• Excellent ability to attend to details.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Strong sense of responsibility.
• High level of oral and written communication skills.

General Information - Graduate Assistantships Graduate Assistants (GAs) must be, and remain, enrolled as a student in good standing on a full-time basis in a Cairn graduate program through the duration of the GA-ship. Dual-level degree students are not eligible for consideration. Those enrolled in a Cairn Online master's degree program are eligible for consideration, but GA work assignments are on-campus only. The GA-ship ends at the conclusion of the semester in which the GA completes his/her degree. For all GA openings, preference will be given to qualified candidates who are beginning their first year of the master's degree program and intend to remain in the GA position through completion of their academic program.
